In April at the Jewish Museum will open a major exhibition of avant-garde of the 19 regional museums

In early April at the Jewish Museum and tolerance Center opens a Grand exhibition "on demand. The collection of Russian avant-garde of regional museums". This is the first large-scale exhibition project of the Center of the avant-garde, curated by Andrew Sarabyanova. The viewer will see a unique collection of avant-garde art from the collections of regional museums 19 cities: Arkhangelsk, Astrakhan, Yelets, Ivanovo, Kirov, Kozmodemyansk, Kostroma, Krasnodar, Nizhny Novgorod, Omsk, Rostov, Samara, Saratov, Slobodsky, Totma, Tula, Ufa, Cheboksary, Yaroslavl.

important role in the formation of avant-garde collections in regional museums has played a pioneering project FROM the Department of people's Commissariat for education on the formation of the "museums of artistic culture". It was initiated in 1918 by Vasily Kandinsky and continued by Alexander Rodchenko. For the first time in world practice the art the idea of establishing a Museum of contemporary art. For this purpose a special Commission has for several years bought works by artists-авангардистов and distribution of works in those cities, where they were art school. From 1918 to 1920 at 415 the authors were procured 1926 publications, of which 1211 were distributed to 30 museums of Russia. The plan of the division FROM the people's Commissariat for education was consonant with the utopian ideas of the early revolutionary years and, like many initiatives of that time, was soon rejected. However, the result was a unique collection of avant-garde in many Russian museums.

For the exhibition at the Jewish Museum and tolerance centre from the collections of regional museums of Russia was selected over 100 works recognized as classics of the avant-garde — Kazimir Malevich, Wassily Kandinsky, Mikhail Larionov, Natalya Goncharova, Lyubov Popova, Olga Rozanova, Marc Chagall, and some not quite so famous artists — Victor Barta, Alexei Grishchenko, Moses Kogan, Alexei Morgunov, Sam Shleifer, and many others, made a significant contribution to the history of Russian avant-garde art. Some of the paintings were specially restored for the exhibition.

the Exhibition is the first part of two in the draft, devoted to the collections of regional museums. Chronologically it covers the period from the formation of the avant-garde in the mid 1900-х years until 1918. The second part will be devoted to the next decade (1918-1930-е); its opening scheduled for spring 2017.
