The painting Briullov not returned to their rightful owners

Leningrad regional court quashed the decision of the court of first instance about the exclusion of the paintings by Karl Briullov "Christ in the tomb" from Museum Fund of the Russian Federation

this story Began more than fifteen years ago, in early 2000,-х years, when Alexander Pevzner, collector of Russian origin with German citizenship, bought in Belgium picture, presumably written for the decoration of Church or home chapel. Despite the fact that the canvas was unsigned, and was sold as a work by an unknown artist, in the manner of writing it was clear that it could be Karl Brullov. To confirm my hunch, Pevzner took the picture to Moscow in order to make the examination and turn an unknown artist into a wholly-owned Briullov.

the importation of paintings in the country was having problems with her design, in 2003, the canvas was confiscated, and before the collector it appeared likely to be charged with smuggling. Pevsner went to Germany, but for the return of the painting decided to compete.

In the end in June 2017 the Supreme Court reversed the decision on confiscation. Which meant the picture to return, no options.

However, despite the court's decision, the picture in may 2017 was included in the Museum Fund of the Russian Federation. Pevzner did not retreat, and this fall the Vyborg city court of Leningrad region has ruled out the painting of the Museum, however, on 25 December 2019 Lenoblsud decision is reversed, and the proceedings terminated.

the Lawyer Maxim Krupsky, representing the interests of families Pevzner, commented on the court's decision the publication "Kommersant":

"From 19 December 2019, that part of the appeals determination, the execution of which has caused doubt and uncertainty, is repealed. However, with the cessation of production of the Leningrad regional court quashed the resolution of the Vyborg city court of Leningrad region where there were no legal grounds: the appeal decision of the Supreme court of 19 December 2019 is irrelevant to the question of the legality and validity of the decision of the Vyborg court handed down in September".

it is Clear that the fight isn't over. About the development of this complicated case, we'll definitely let you know.
