Today, August 19, 2010, in the Benois Wing presents "" Smolyanka "Dmitry Levitsky.
to 275-year anniversary of the birth of Dmitry Grigorievich Levitsky in the Russian Museum for the first time after a long restoration exhibited a cycle famous "Smolyanok" - seven portraits of the pupils of the Educational Society for young ladies in Resurrection Novodevichy Convent (Smolny Institute). These portraits, executed in the period from 1772 to 1776, is considered to be one of the tops of both Russian and European portraiture of the XVIII century. They are characterized by high performance skill, depth and subtlety of psychological characteristics.
The exhibition includes materials that reveal the history of the restoration of portraits "Smolyanok", which began in the second half of 1990 and lasted for a decade. The restorers of the Russian Museum managed to bring your picture ID Levitsky to their original appearance and reveal the unique features of the author's painting style, distorted loss, damage, or hidden by previous restoration interventions.
The exhibition also exhibited for the first time the seven previously unknown paintings by Dmitry Levitsky, among them - portraits of Admiral IL Golenishcheva-Kutuzov, vice president of the Academy of Arts and AF Labzin, and became a sensational discovery researchers portrait of Paul I, written shortly to the tragic death of the Emperor.
In creating the exhibition, together with the Russian Museum was attended by the State Hermitage Museum, State Historical Museum, Peterhof and the National History Museum of St. Petersburg.
