the Son of the landlord. Initial art education has received in Elizavetgrad. Around 1891, together with family emigrated to USA, settled in new-Йорке. He studied at the National Academy of design (1893-1898), Art students League (1901-1902). Among the teachers were leading American painters J. О. Вейер, J. У. Мейнард, Р. Ваннох, Ф. К. Джонс, Э. М. Уорд, Ч. Я. Тернер.

Lived in new-Йорке, he had a Studio on Washington-сквер (1910). In 1900-1908 работал assistant art-монументалиста J. La Farge, completed his sketches of the wall paintings in the hall of the Supreme court in the Capitol building of the state of Minnesota, a courthouse in Baltimore, developed the design of the stained glass Windows. In 1908-1911 together with his family traveled through Europe: he visited Italy, France; has served as the backdrop for street theatre.

he Worked primarily as a portraitist in the academic and impressionistic style. Particularly known for his female portraits. He painted landscapes, still lifes. Was engaged in monumental painting. Completed mural in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Thomas in the Bronx (1920-1922), portraits and decorative panels at the Loomis Institute in Windsor (Connecticut, 1925). In 1947-1952 he worked under contract with the company Incorporation Portraits. Member of the National society of mural painters (National Society of Mural Painters), art-литературного "Lotus-клуба" (The Lotos club), art club "Salmagundi" (the Salmagundi art club), new-Йорке. Winner of many art exhibition and awards.

Exhibited in new-йоркских galleries Macbeth (1910-х), Grand Central (from 1923).

he Taught at the National Academy of design in new-Йорке (1912), academician (since 1919). She led a class of portrait painting in Art student League (1928-1934, 1944). Among his students — И. Болотовский, Л. Лозовик R. and М. Сойеры.

the Memorial exhibitions were held in new-Йорке (1962), Boston (1985), Store and old-Лайме (Connecticut, 1995).

Work is represented in many Museum collections, including the Metropolitan Museum and the Brooklyn Museum in new-Йорке, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Boston Museum of fine arts, the Smithsonian Museum of American art in Washington, and others.
