In the permanent exhibition of the Tretyakov gallery on the Crimean Val opened chamber exhibition, which introduces viewers to rarely exhibited works from the collection of the sculpture of the twentieth century. Until now, this topic was not the subject of special consideration, although in the beginning of the last century, Russia remained an agrarian country, and artists from the time of the Wanderers showed constant interest in the peasant theme. The exhibition includes portraits of typical characters, scenes work in the field, images of vacationers peasants.

Many of the works in the years of the creation became a noticeable feature of the exhibition life, was actively discussed by critics, and now constitute the Foundation of the masterpieces of Soviet art. So, "Peasant woman" by Vera Mukhina, created under the state order for the exhibition "10 years of October," was sent to the Venice Biennale in 1928, and there was a incredible success. At exhibitions the society of Russian sculptors, associations, brought together the best masters of the era of the turn of 1920-30-х years, exhibited "Melodica" M. D. In the exhibition one can distinguish several thematic layers. A number of images associated with the idea of the peasantry as the carrier of folk wisdom as the guardian of the experience of previous generations. However, sometimes they read the traits of conservatism and Patriarchy that distinguishes the peasant as a specific social type, the rhythm of life which is subordinated to the natural cycle. Other sculptures have the character portrait, but the images carry a certain archetypal features, reflecting the peculiarities of the attitude of the Russian peasant, — is "Fedot Unkempt. Another thematic block is associated with the display of work on the ground. "The sower" I. D. Shadr, spreading seeds from the box, embodies the prevailing centuriestradition. In contrast, a "Kombinerki" A. V. Babichev reflects incident in the life of the village changes.
