Total revenue for the evening auction Christie's "the Art of impressionism and modernism" amounted to 166 million dollars

Masterpiece of Edouard Manet's "Spring", written in 1881, was the top lot evening auction Christie's "the Art of impressionism and modernism" November 5 in new York. Work has doubled its estimate of 25-30 million dollars and was purchased for a record for the artist sumo.

This result was predictable: the "Spring" of Edouard Manet has a number of advantages. The painting was exhibited in the Paris salon in 1882 near such work as "a Bar at the Folies-Bergeres. From all 30 paintings by Manet, participated in the Paris salons throughout his life, "Spring" is the latest in private hands. For a hundred years since its writing "Spring" did not leave a single private collection, and the last 20 years was exhibited at the National gallery of art (Washington, USA). At public auction the work first appeared. So the interest of the two main contenders - sitting in the hall of the new York dealer Otto Naumann and orders over the phone representative Acquavella Galleries is understandable. Battle rates ended at around 65,13 million dollars: won Naumann. Previous personal auction record Manet was half - a $ 33 million for "self-Portrait with palette" at London's Sotheby's auction in 2010 godu.

And here is the second top lot of the work of Fernand léger "Builders tree" - alas, not attracted no bids during the auction (estimate : 16-22 million dollars). As described in attendance at the auction journalists, auctioneer Andreas Rambler several times appealed to the audience with the suggestion of starting Bida 15.5 million dollars, but after a long silence he was forced to go to other lots. However, the purchase of this lot at a certain fixed price guaranteed auction house (in the role of buyer in this case is either the Sotheby's or a third party). So the work was in any case purchased. However, in the list of lots sold on the website of Sotheby's, she did not appear. Work Leger once belonged to the owner of a chain of casinos and collector Steve Windu.

In the absence of interest Leger, the second top lot was a sculpture by Alberto Giacometti's "Stella III. The hammer price reached 9.9 million dollars (estimate of 4.5-6.5 million dollars). At good prices has left the works of Joan Miro (8.6 million dollars), Renoir ($5.7 million), Henri Matisse (5.4 million dollars) and other General revenues of the auction amounted to 166 million dollars. Of the 39 lots offered found buyers 35.

Recall that the day before the auction house Sotheby's spent the best in its history auctions, where revenues reached 422 million dollars - mainly due to the sales of sculptures by Giacometti and Modigliani.
