At the end of 1890 on the initiative of Mamontov illustrated tale of Alexander Pushkin and Russian folk tales. Since the late 1890's, developed the designs of furniture, utensils, embroideries, articles of jewelry. With a lathe artisan workshops of Sergiev Posad has created the first Russian nesting dolls (1899). In 1899-1903 he lived in the estate Tenisheva Talashkino near Smolensk, where he supervised the carpentry and ceramics studio, working on projects and decoration of buildings in Talashkino, Flenovo (Hall "The Mansion", the Savior church-tomb; both - 1901-1903). Together with Vasnetsov created the museum building project "Russian Antiquity" in Smolensk (1904-1905). Member of the Artel artists-potters "ant" (1904-1918). Author of the project profitable home PN Pertsova in Moscow (1905-1907, jointly with the engineer N. Zhukov).
In 1914 he was awarded the title of Academician.
After the October Revolution was a member of the College of Fine Arts Narcompros (since 1919); participated in the Fine Arts section Mosgubrabisa (1919-1923). He performed the logo ( "Consent Moscow Artists") for the trade union painters (1917).
