BURLYUK Vladimir Davidovich

Vladimir Burlyuk was one of the founders of the Russian futurism. He was brother of the poet Nikolay Burlyuk, of the painter and poet David Burlyuk.

In 1911–1915 Burlyuk studied at Penza art school. Since 1907 he took part in different exhibitions: Zveno (“Link”, 1908), Venok (“Wreath”, 1908), Salon of V. A. Izdebsky (1909–1910). Vladimir Burlyuk was a member and an active participant of the group Venok-Stefanos (1907–1909), the association Treugolnik (“Triangle”, 1910), the group Bubnovy Valet (“Jack of Diamonds”, 1910–1913), and the Union of Youth (1912–1913).

Burlyuk also was a member of the Salon of Independents (1914) in Paris; of the New art society (1910–1911) and the group Der Blaue Reiter (“The Blue Rider”, 1912) in Munich. He drew illustrations to the futuristic books.

Vladimir Burlyuk died at the front.

Works by Vladimir Burlyuk are in many museum collections, including the State Russian Museum.
