Graphic portrait of Meyerhold Annenkov sold for 1 million pounds at Sotheby's
A record for a work on paper by Annenkov. All in all, auction of Russian fine and decorative arts on November 27 brought 8.36 million pounds
Yesterday, November 27, in London, were the second and third sessions of the Russian auction Sotheby's. Section of paintings and works on paper brought 4.9 million pounds, and the section of Russian decorative arts, works of Fabergé and icons - 3.46 million pounds. Total, evening sale on November 26 , for two days, Sotheby's managed to gain by selling 20.5 million pounds (total estimate 17-24 million pounds).
Among the top lots of yesterday's auction included:
- Graphics' Portrait Vsevolod Meyerhold "work Yuri Pavlovich Annenkov Yuri . For his work with pencil and paper arguing eight people in the room and on the phones. As a result, figure got a new owner for 1.05 million pounds - a few dozen times more expensive estimate 30-50 thousand pounds. This is a new record for the graphic works Annenkov.
- section of decorative art and icons became the most expensive work of Faberge in a bouquet of cornflowers and stalks of oats. Cornflower sprig made of gilded silver, inflorescences of silver enamelled royal blue, center of the flower encrusted with diamonds; escape oats also made of gilded silver, placed a bouquet in a glass of rock crystal. This luxury souvenir was auctioned off for 433.25 thousand pounds - twice as much as the lower estimate 180,000 pounds.
- Another highlight of the session was the sale of PDI icon of the Savior Almighty with the imperial provenance. This work was presented in 1888 by Tsar Alexander III on the occasion of the miraculous rescue of the royal family at the station Borki. Salary icon of gilded silver decorated with cloisonne enamel. Lot purchased for 253.25 thousand pounds (estimate 180-250 thousand pounds).
