His sketches of everyday life, unfolding against the backdrop of Moscow dawn - is the author's commentary on important social changes in the country. In the early 1930's Chelishchev began a series of papers on the theme of the circus, depicting acrobats, jugglers, strongmen and other circus performers. This choice testifies to the keen interest Chelishchev to the "blue" and "pink" periods of Picasso, samples of which he could see in the Paris home of Gertrude Stein. The restrained palette of works of the series is designed to strengthen the overall melancholic mood of this gallery of unusual characters who seemed to materialize from the grim fog of gas colors: gray, blue, yellow. Massive proportions, deep in thought "Man in tattoos" Chelishchev - one of the most characteristic works of this cycle.

"Portrait of Ruth Ford, have reportedly been ordered by Edward James - British poet, patron of the Surrealists and the well-known collector. The Order was necessary to the Polish king Augustus II, whose power was often subjected to tests for rewarding his allies from both the Polish and Russian nobility. After the partition of Poland the Order was virtually abolished, while the Emperor Nicholas I is not restored it in 1831 as the Imperial and the Imperial Order of the White Eagle. His appearance also was modified: the original background of the red cross and white Polish eagle is now in the center wearing the double-headed Russian eagle.
