the Main idea of the exhibition — to show the rich artistic heritage of Georgian art of the era of avant-garde and to emphasize the historical and cultural ties between the two countries, which was formed centuries ago and developed fruitfully in various fields of art, history and culture.
In the early twentieth century avant-garde thought had the strongest impact on different types of art in Georgia: painting, literature, music and theatre. Tiflis became the center of creative experiment, the "little Paris". Cultural life of the city was full with events: the artistic cafe excitedly poetry tournaments, the Director of Moscow art theater and the Creator of the Free theater in Moscow, Konstantin (Kote) Marjanishvili in Georgia successfully collaborated with young artists, Petra Ozeli and Irakli Gamrekeli. There were Vladimir Mayakovsky and Osip Mandelstam, in Tiflis moved the poets Vasily Kamensky and Alexei Kruchenykh, , in the Conservatory, taught Heinrich Neuhaus. Philosopher George Gurdjieff opened the first "Institute for the harmonious development of man" and "the collective School of gymnastics" where everyone could go to classes and explore the "sacred dance" and "sacred gymnastics".
In 1910-е years David Kakabadze brothers Zdanevich, Alexander Bazhbeuk-Меликян and the other went from Georgia to study in Saint-Петербург and Moscow. They are actively involved in the capital's artistic life, he became friends with the representatives of the Russian avant-garde, participated in exhibitions and debates, spoke with the artistic manifestos. In 1912, the St. Michael Le-Дантю and titlesec, poet-футурист Ilya Zdanevich "opened" creativity Pirosmani first the Russian and then the European public. They were the first who compared the work of Pirosmani works A. Russo, around which in the early 1900-х United P. Picasso, A. Matisse, A. Derain, and many others. For Georgian artists of the new generation of Pirosmani paintings have become if not an inspiration, an example of the free from "academic inertia" of pure art.
In the early 1920-х many Georgian artists went to Paris, where he became acquainted with A. Derain, Modigliani, Marc A., F. Leger, L. Fujitas, as well as with the Russian avant-garde Mikhail Larionov and Natalia Goncharova. Gudiashvili studied at the académie Ranson; Kirill Zdanevich — at the Academy Grand Shomer. In Paris held a series of exhibitions of Georgian artists.
Intellectual life flourished in Tbilisi and after the Sovietization of Georgia in 1921. An avant-garde experiment lasted throughout the 1920s and-х years. In March 1924, was created the group "H2SO4", whose members published a magazine under the same name; in 1926 returned from Paris Gudiashvili, next year — Kakabadze and poets Simon Chikovani, Titian Tabidze and Paolo Yashvili continued to write and publish his poetry until the late 1930-х years. Then, in an atmosphere of severe political repression candid artistic experiments stopped@the semicolon in his personal and creative fate of many heroes of the Georgian avant-garde early XX century suffered a painful fracture, the ordinary for its time.
