In the center of a unique exhibition - a wonderful person and work of their founder, Sergei Pavlovich Diaghilev (1872-1929), a bright figure in the artistic life of Russia in the early twentieth century. It was he who had the honor of opening the domestic art to a Western audience.

Main brainchild Diaghilev - Private Company "Russian Ballet" - quickly gained recognition abroad. For the first time the troupe from St. Petersburg was made at the Paris Theater "Chatelet" May 19, 1909 with the ballet "Le Pavillon d'Armide", "Polovtsian Dances" and "Feast". In the future evolution of the Diaghilev Project, which participated in the implementation of the most talented and innovative choreographers, composers, dancers, artists from different countries, and the triumph of the Russian troupe in Paris, London, Madrid had a powerful impact on various spheres of art of the twentieth century - the music, set design, choreography , painting. It is no exaggeration to say that Diaghilev's productions have become one of the main Russian artistic phenomena, whose importance and leading role were recognized throughout the world.

synthetic character performances of the Russian Ballet "identified a multi-level structure of the exposition, which combines a thematic and chronological principles. Without a view to documenting accuracy to reproduce the chronology of Diaghilev's seasons, the organizers of the exhibition sought to create their common, perhaps idealized image, relying primarily on the expressiveness of authentic works of art. In accordance with the logic of constructing the ballet program and concert tour by the Diaghilev exhibition organized in several thematic areas: they are given the classic ballet, "Orientalism", "Russian" theme, as well as avant-garde productions. With the conventions of the distinction as the expository material would flow from one section to another, forming important for Diaghilev thinking "bias" eras and styles.

Chelishchev, "Cat" N. Gabo and A. Pevsner. The connection of heterogeneous artifacts, where each group has its own significance, makes it possible to create not so much a chronicle of how the image of Diaghilev's seasons, to convey their scale, the internal dynamics of development, the desire for novelty shapes, struck demanding European audience.
