ARTinvestment.RU: What is the exhibition event of the year you can name the most important for your gallery? What was your major success?

Ilya Wolf : It is difficult to answer. We generally try not to rank our events on the important and substantial and continuous and irrelevant. Therefore, in the past year was a major achievement, I would say that the very existence of the gallery, as well as the fact that the crisis has not made any significant changes to our schedule of exhibitions, and in our activities in general. Let's just say, quantified financial crisis will affect all spheres of our activity: the number of sales, profits, investment in new projects, but qualitatively it is we do not "pull up».

AI: What event or exhibition you would call the principal in 2009? What made the greatest impression on you?

IV: Most likely, Moscow Biennale and its accompanying projects. Vigorous activity "Garage».

AI: is your prediction: Will the 2010-th year of restoration of the art market and what are the prerequisites for this do you feel today? Your script?

IV: Prerequisites for a recession, of course. However, they were in the middle of the year. A fundamental change has not yet felt. It is unlikely that 2010 will be a year restoring the art market. Even if it be a year of recovery in the world economy in general and Russia in particular - it does not lead to an instant rise of the art market. First, all will have to patch the hole, lick wounds, rebuild the infrastructure business, and only then, after receiving the first "post-crisis" profits - think about the long-term investment in art or how to make a gift in the form of some compositions. This is not entirely applicable to professional collectors: This category of our colleagues and clients will acquire art has always been, regardless of market conditions. The only question in the volumes. If all goes well and 2010-th year will bring some relief to the economy - somewhere in a year can expect a significant recovery of the art market. And hardly used.

AI: Can you mention some positive aspects of the impact of the crisis on the market of art? In particular, contributed to a crisis of modernization art market?

IV: As for upgrading - not very clear what we mean. I would say that the crisis has shown how real and justified today's prices. When gallery owner announces price of the product and the customer is trading - before the majority of sellers prices rarely fell more than ten per cent. Today, many prices have dropped in many times. Fortunately, this does not apply to galleries and good works of good artists. Prices are kept, we can say at the level of emergency preparedness, and, indeed, buy them more than for what is available in two to three times cheaper than a couple of years ago. So now this revaluation, I would mention the positive effects. Some effect of litmus test. The strong become stronger, the weak - weaker.

AI: How do you assess the growth of informational openness of Russia's art market, in particular, pricing information and processes provided ARTinvestment . RU? Rather helps or hinders the growth of information rather open your business?

IV: Any information the market needs. Information transparency allows a clearer and more convincing arguments to formulate the principles of pricing and demonstrates the relevance of specific areas, artists, styles. And if earlier it was possible to find at least some sales statistics only for the antiques market, and only from Western sources (auktsionniki, reviews, web resources) - but today you can find a wealth of information about Russian artists and the dynamics of the market is Russia. That's good. At least it proves the openness and civility of the market. He gradually ceases to be a certain closed, sealed with seven seals domain of a handful of "understanding" - and grows into a normal line of business activity. In addition, the openness allows integration in international processes, which also increases confidence in Russia's top art market.

AI: your wishes yourself, as well as colleagues and participants market in the new year?

IV: to survive, survive and be after the crisis is not in a clean, scorched, field, and preserved the system of art - market. That is not to create everything from scratch and restored back to its pre-crisis state. The rest will follow. And, given the recent shock the sad news of the death of a remarkable man Oli Lopukhova - all wish health and, no matter how cliché it may sound, long life ...
