"Snow Meridian Francisco Infante and Nonna Goryunova

Today, 15 December, at 14.00 in the State Tretyakov Gallery in Krymsky Val will be opening an exhibition "Snow meridian" - a new project the greatest contemporary artists, the key figures of modern art, heirs of the traditions of Russian avant-garde Francisco Infante and Nonna Goryunova .

Installation deployed in the hall of special projects. Hall 38, opened in 2007 as part of the permanent exhibition "The Art of the XX century", was designed for creative experimentation of contemporary artists whose work is already represented in the museum or are preparing to enter the assembly.

Destination artistic searches F. Infante was defined in the years of study at the Moscow Art School. Then there was a sudden awareness of the infinity of the world, which he felt necessary to explore and display. In early 1960 Francisco Infante turned to the development of the geometric and kinetic practice and later, in 1968, a duet with his wife, Nonna Goryunova, artists began to work "under the open sky».

New for itself a form of art Infante symbolically marked by the word artifact. Artifact, he said, is a picture that does not just fix, and conceptually, in accordance with the idea of artist records the presence of an artificial object created by the author, and that part of nature, which he chose. At the same time, the artifact - this "thing" second "nature, and man-made autonomous in relation to nature, and the fact that art (arte-fact), and symbolic granted - something that can not be, but mysteriously happens" .

«Snow Meridian conceived as a project - installation of artifacts exclusively with snow. Artists are not the first in the history of Russian art exploring the snowy surface, travail association with a white canvas, a sheet of paper, with white marble. Following K. Malevich , Kandinsky they create works in which white is a sacred and light and perfect purity, and supramarginal, and silence.

The project includes 162 works from different years, including those on display for the first time cycle "Alpine Snow". This loop, created in 2009 coincided with the early-cycle in 1968 Suprematic game. " Then three-dimensional arrangement placed on the snow - a dazzling white background, served as the material of artistic research "metaphysics white».

Project "Snow Meridian allows us to trace the evolution of the artifact as a special form of creative expression. Presents the classic works of the second half of 1970: "Wanderings of a square" (1977) and "The centers of curved space" (1979), where the authors use curved mirror surface, depending on the degree of curvature of the turn reflected a 90 ˚, 180 ˚, and even 360 ˚. The development of the artifact is illustrated by works of the cycles of the following decades: "The alignment of the mark, or turned inside out perspective" (1984-1986), "Rural Impressions" (1995), "Lines" (2003) and others.

The organizing principle in the space of the hall and the actual exposure is also part of the author's intention, which in addition to artists participated showing an initiator of the project in the museum gallery owner, Pauline Lobachevsky. In a darkened room illuminated by directional light artifacts are not only located on the white walls, but freely "floating" in space. The motif of falling snow turned into a video installation exhibition sounds like a reminder of the exceptional role of the case in the process of creating a composition.

Of particular interest is the exposure precedes the section, which shows the photos showing the process of creating artifacts and working times shooting. Documentary material allows us to understand that the paradoxical and largely mysterious artifacts are created in real time and space without the aid of modern computer technology - the pictures are visible fasteners and stretch marks, the moments of mounting installations. It is important that F. Infante and N. Goryunova started to create their artifacts in a time when there were no personal computers with the program Photoshop, anticipating the experiences of contemporary artists who use your computer's capabilities.

When producing artifacts apply the new photo technology - ilford on dibonde and plasticization, which allows the best to date, the picture quality.

The exhibition is open to the public from December 16, 2009 to August 1, 2010.
