born in a family physician. In 1877-1885 together with his family lived in Lozannne, in 1885-1890 - in Kiev, from 1892 - in Moscow. In 1895 he took private lessons with SM Volnukhin. In 1897-1902 studied law at Moscow University. At the same time engaged in a workshop in Volnukhin MUZhViZ, although not officially a student. Mastered the technique of drawing under the direction of ST Konenkova, the advice of the painter SV Ivanov.

In 1902-1903 worked as a barrister and wrote his thesis on the theory of copyright. In 1907 traveled to Paris, where he studied the technique works in marble, acquainted with the works of Rodin, O. and R. Bugatti. Exhibited their works in the Salon d'Automne.

In 1908-1910 he taught at the Stroganov School of Industrial Art. He was a member of the Moscow Association of Artists (since 1914). In the 1900's - 1910-X participated in exhibitions of the Moscow Society of Art Lovers, TPHV and others. Collaborated with the glass factory AA Belyaeva: creating a model for bottles of spirits.

In 1917-1918 served as deputy chairman of the Council of artistic organizations in Moscow and the chairman of a special commission to reorganize MUZhViZ. He served as chairman of the Moscow Union of Artists, Sculptors (1918-1919), member of central committee and board member of the Section of Fine Arts RALIS (1919), a member of the Board and the Scientific Council of the State Tretyakov Gallery, the head of the department of sculpture (1923-1925), a member of the Sculpture Department and the Qualification Commission to award the title of the artist VHUTEINa (1924-1929). In 1920, with Kandinsky and IV ZHOLTOVSKOGO worked in the Humanities and Education Institute, in 1921-1931 he taught at GAHN. According to the plan of monumental propaganda carried out a statue of Byron J. (1919). Participated in exhibitions AHRR. In 1937-1939 he taught at the Moscow Institute of Fine Arts, Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Sculpture. Among his pupils - LY Kerbel and VE Tsigal. In 1935 Moscow hosted solo exhibition Domogatskii. In 1937 the artist was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the RSFSR.

retrospective exhibition was organized by the master in 1957 in Moscow.

Domogatskii - one of the greatest masters of sculpture of the first third of XX century in Russia. He worked as an animal painter, portraitist, genre painter. In the early period was influenced by Rodin, O., P. Trubetskoy, animal painter R. Bugatti. His works characterized by seclusion, the lyricism, lightness, "mobility" molding. Often resorted to receive a combination of the composition of a smooth, treated and untreated (rough) texture of the stone. The main features of the creative manner and persisted in the Soviet era.

Domogatskii works are in many museum collections, including the State Tretyakov Gallery, State Russian Museum, State Literary Museum and the Kiev Museum of Russian Art and others.
