Born the son of renowned ornithologist and popularizer of science DN Kaigorodova. In 1894-1897 he studied at the Higher Art School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture at IAH Solzhenitsyn Kunidzhi, VV Mate. In 1896-1900 - in the Central School of Technical Drawing of Baron Alexander Stieglitz. In 1902-1904 he lived in Munich, where he studied at the School Sh Holloshi. In 1905, attended private academies R. Julien, and F. Kolarossi in Paris. At the same time studied law at St. Petersburg University, graduating in 1903.

worked primarily as a landscape painter. Since 1900 participated in the Spring exhibition in the halls of IAH, and later - in the exhibitions the Society of Russian watercolors, the Association of Independent and others. In 1913, exhibited his work at the International Art Exhibition in Munich. In 1913, for the painting "Surf" was awarded Count Stroganoff annual competition of the Society for the Encouragement of Arts, in 1915 - Prize. Kuindzhi at the spring exhibition IAH. After the October Revolution of 1917 was a member of the Commission on the Arts, participated in exhibitions of the Society Kuindzhi Petrograd (1917-1918), TPHV (1917-1918), as well as the exhibition of Russian art in Copenhagen (1919) .

In 1920 he emigrated, he lived in Tallinn. He was a central Estonian Academic Society of Artists. Held solo exhibitions in Tallinn (1920, 1924, 1935, 1939), Riga (1932) and Tartu (1936). Founded his own school studio. Participated in the creation of the Russian cultural-historical museum in Prague. In 1939 he left for Germany. In March 1944 held a personal exhibition in Posen.

The formation of the creative manner Kaigorodova significantly influenced by learning from Kuindzhi and close communication with N. Roerich. With Kuindzhi artist have in common an interest in the transfer of light and air, lighting effects. Proximity of Roerich art is found in coloring, built on a combination of shades of blue, yellow, orange, and a passion for the spiritual and philosophical themes. In his works Kaygorodov often resorted to the technique of oil tempera, seeking soft, rich tones. Favorite motifs of the paintings were landscapes "of the Russian past" - Pecheri, Izborsk, Ivan the city of Narva.
