Lednev-Shchukin was a brother of the painter and scene designer P. E. Lednev-Shchukin. In 1890s Lednev-Shchukin studied at the Central Stroganov School of Technical Drawing.

Lednev-Shchukin lived in Moscow. He painted landscapes of Central Russia, views of villages and monasteries. He drew sketches of Zvenigorod, visited regularly the Crimea. In 1900s–1910s Lednev-Shchukin participated in the exhibitions of Moscow Society of Art lovers, St. Petersburg’s (Petrograd’s) Society of Artists, exhibitions of the group Mir Iskusstva (“World of Art”), the group Nezavisimye (“Independents”). Lednev-Shchukin was a member of the art circle Sreda (“Environment”). In soviet years Lednev-Shchukin exposed his works at the exhibitions of the professional union of artists (1918), at the 2nd state exhibition of paintings (1919), at the 9th exhibition Contemporary painting (1922), at the exhibitions of the group Ob’edinennoye Iskusstvo (OBIS, “United Art”, 1925), the group of Moscow artists (1927, 1929), the group Art to working people (1927). Since 1943 Lednev-Shchukin was a member of Moscow Union of Soviet Artists (MSSKh).

Works by Sergei Lednev-Shchukin are in many regional museum collections, including the Primorskaya state art gallery in Vladivostok, Khimki art gallery, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
