son of a painter Ilya Repin and his first wife, Vera Alexandrovna Shevtsova. In ten years he lived with his mother. He studied at home, then - in a real school. In 1893, together with his father traveled to Germany, France and Italy.

Since 1894 regularly engaged in painting and drawing under the guidance of his father, first in the estate Zdravnevo Vitebsk, then - at the Drawing School of Princess Tenisheva in St. Petersburg (1894-1899). Since 1899 was an auditor of the Higher Art School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture at IAH, studied at the Repin's studio, P. O. Kovalevsky, F. A. Roubaud, D. Kardovsky. At the same time worked at the University for Arts and Education courses IAH (1898-1903). In 1905, left his studies in VHU, not having received the title of the artist. Participated in the Spring exhibition in the halls of IAH, exhibitions of the Union of Russian Artists.

From 1903 worked as an assistant to his father's workshop, in 1909 moved with him to Kuokkala in Finland. In 1914 he founded a private school of painting for children.

in 1911-1912 participated in the All-Russia Congress of artists. Exhibited his works at exhibitions Munich Secession (1910), at the World Exhibition in Rome (1911), at the exhibitions of the Association of Independent (1911, 1913), TPHV (1914-1918).

In May 1918, was cut off from Russia Soviet-Finnish border, and in fact was in exile. Up to 1921 his paintings continued to appear on Soviet exhibitions, particularly at the First State Free Exhibition of works of art in Petrograd (1919) and the 3rd exhibition of paintings in Ryazan (1919). In 1926-1927, visited Leningrad to write an order based on sketches by his father's painting "Autocracy (End autocracy)" (not implemented). In 1930 took part in the activities of the Society of Russian artists in Finland.

In 1939, together with other residents Kuokkala was evacuated to the village of Levanto in the south of Finland, leaving the house belonging to him part of his father's inheritance. After the war he settled in Helsinki. In recent years, life went into a mental disorder, died at the home of the Salvation Army in Helsinki. Posted memoir, "The Book of Life" (unpublished).
