Tomorrow in the gallery "KABINET" opens the exhibition "Two brothers Benoit. Albert and Alexander. Watercolours and drawings from Russian and foreign private collections"
the Exhibition "Two brothers, Benoit" will be a logical continuation of the exhibition "albert Benois. Miracles", with great success held at the CHA this summer.
Will be exhibited works by two famous representatives of the Benois family: the founder of the Association "World of art", master artist of "Russian seasons", a brilliant wizard and profound art criticism Alexander Nikolayevich Benois (1870-1960) and his older brother — founder of the Society of Russian watercolors, academician of the Imperial Academy of arts Alberta (1852-1936).
Main part of the exhibition will be 150 watercolors from the Russian private collections. Many of them the audience will see for the first time.
Among the 40 works of albert Benois, referring to the Russian period of the artist presented his biggest watercolor — "Evening came", which has no analogues in Museum collections.
Alexander Benois brought to the audience in two main creative forms — artist's aesthetics "World of art" and theatre artist. The exhibition includes sketches of its scenery to the famous productions of Diaghilev's ballet "Armida's Pavilion" (1909), "Petrushka" (first performance in 1911); "Giselle". Among the works period "World of art" — paintings that became popular during the life of the artist, thanks to numerous publications: watercolour "feeding the birds Alexander I in Tsarskoye Selo in the presence of Frederick William" (1908), included in the book N. Kutepova "Imperial hunting in Russia"; two views of Versailles, published in the journal "Akvilon" in 1922 and "the Departure of count Orlov to hunt from the Gatchina Palace" created by the artist for the book of A. Popov "Grigory Orlov. Historical poem."
In the preparation of the exhibition has kindly agreed to participate are descendants of the Benois family, living in Europe and the United States. A selection of home collections of two great-grandchildren, Alberta will be displayed in the form of slides on special screens. Watercolors of the period of exile will complement the exhibition of the Russian period and will not only more fully understand the picture of the life and work of albert Benois, but will also be an opening for Russian art historians.
