“Chicken is not a bird -... not foreign countries! ”
Today, photos of Lumière opens the exhibition brings together photographs taken by our reporters abroad during the period 1960-70-ies
Today, July 15, 2009goda picture named Lumière opens the exhibition, called by the famous Soviet joke «Chicken is not a bird, Bulgaria is not abroad». We will show pictures taken by our reporters abroad during the 60-70-ies of XX century.
In the times of «total deficit», few ordinary Soviet people could afford to go abroad. Holders cherished stay in the country's socialist camp (one of the most popular countries were Bulgaria) vzahleb talked about their experiences, showing each other pictures of amateur.
But in most of the information we supplied the Soviet foreign press - «Sovetskoe photos», «Around the World», «week», «Literary Gazette», «Ogonek», «Izvestia», and other publications. We can say that these were lucky reporters who drafted seconded the reach of ordinary citizens of the country - France, Italy, Great Britain, America, Algeria, Morocco, India. Every story «there», appearing in the Soviet press, aroused interest. «Newspaper reader» at the Paris streets Valeria Gendi-Rote; «mod», dancing forbidden to us in those years, twist, Vladimir Lagrange; «Marilyn Monroe at a meeting with the Soviet delegation in Hollywood» Basil Egorova ; live racing vintage cars in Rappolo (Italy) James Khalip . Often, the situation reaches the anecdote: «bite Protocol» photographers did not have a chance to shoot it like that, and today we can see similar shots taken with the same point from different authors.
The streets of Amsterdam, Paris, London, New York, Venice, Prague photos Lev Borodulin , Nicholas Drachinskogo, Yuri Trankvillitskogo, Mykhail Trahmana , Vladimir Stepanov and Vitaly Arutyunova seemed tale, to see that it was only possible on the pages of magazines and newspapers.
unspoken censorship of the time recommended to cover «ulcers and problems of the capitalist world», because it was necessary to praise the Soviet way of life rather than freedom and beauty of the west. Nevertheless, Soviet reporters found the opportunity to shoot free people, beautiful cars, clean the streets of world capitals. Photos decades lay on the shelves, and only a few of them appeared on the pages of the Soviet press. Today we are showing these pictures, which cause a smile and an easy nostalgia for the past.
The exhibition will run until August 24, 2009 at Krymsky Val, 10, hall 51.
