Malevich's heirs agreed with the Guggenheim Foundation

Richard Armstrong, director of the Foundation and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and the heirs of the famous Russian painter Kazimir Kazimir Malevich announced that entered into an amicable agreement regarding the ownership of the work "Untitled" (circa 1916) by Peggy Guggenheim (Peggy Guggenheim) acquired in 1942. Terms of the deal kept secret.

According to Armstrong, a masterpiece of Malevich will remain in the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, where they will be able to admire the general public. Philip Raylends (Philip Rylands), director of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, said: "Very pleased that the Guggenheim Foundation was able to keep to the agreement signed by the Peggy Guggenheim Collection intact." The representative of the heirs of Malevich, in turn, said: "We must pay tribute to both sides, because we were able to reach a just solution to this complex problem. Malevich family is very pleased that the signed agreement corresponds to the heritage significance of the artist and his contribution to the history of art of XX century. At the same time his work will remain accessible to a wide range of viewers who will see it when visiting the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice ».

Malevich's work" Untitled "is a group of about 70 paintings and drawings , exhibited at the retrospective exhibition in Berlin in 1927. The fate of these works is complicated. Malevich was forced to leave them in Germany when he was suddenly summoned to the Soviet Union. Back them he was not able to - because he failed to obtain permission to travel abroad, and in 1935 he died. Therefore, the exhibits of the exhibition in 1927, left without an owner in the care of the architect Hugo Herring, gradually dispersed to collections of major museums in the world such as New York's MoMA and the Amsterdam's Stedelijk Museum. The question of ownership of these works appeared after the collapse of the USSR. The heirs had to struggle to the artist's works: some of them managed to return (for example, the famous «Suprematist composition ", which was sold at Sotheby's Nov. 3, 2008 for $ 60 million ), and some masterpieces remain in the collections of museums to the delight of the audience.
