from a Jewish family, the grandson of the writer A. Z. Maimon. He studied at the Cheder (until 1873), and then mastered the profession of watchmaker. He served as a clerk in various cities of Lithuania. At the same time took private lessons in painting and drawing. He studied at the Vilna drawing school (1879-1880), IAH (1880-1887). During the period of study awarded small silver medals (1884, 1885; studies), large silver medals (1884, Etude, 1885, the figure).
