From a peasant family, spent his childhood in the province of Tula. Studied at the Central Stroganov school of technical drawing — Central Stroganov-промышленном school (1902-1911) Н. А. Андреева.

he Lived in Moscow. From 1909 дебютировал as a satirical artist in the magazine "Rampa and life." Performed caricatures of Opera scenes, caricatures of theatre.

In 1917 he became a full member of society "knave of diamonds", but in exhibitions did not participate. He painted landscapes, still lifes; in his easel painting and graphics were influenced by the "Jack of diamonds".

From the late 1910-х — in 1920-х worked for the satirical magazines "Smeac", "Splinter", "Atheist at the machine", "Behemoth", "BOV", "Yourself", "Red pepper", "Bast", "Beep", "Freak". A regular cartoonist for the magazine "Crocodile". To book graphics; illustrated books: Н. Агнивцева "In defense of chimney-sweep", И. Кремлева, А. Григоровича "Miracle in wet marshes" (both — 1926).

In 1919-1921 he worked in "Windows of satire Growth". The author of the posters: "Kurenka will not release — so the land peasants before the revolution was the small, Peasant, you give an employee bread PUD...", "the Establishment, the Red Army, safeguarding your work, thins...", "are You waiting for Wrangel?", "Officer red, remember...", "In the world two classes...", "We won Wrangel", "long live 8-й Congress of Soviets", "All aid to the Donbass!", "The bourgeoisie reason to rejoice a little...", "On the Polish front!", "Previously, the engineer was in the office", "What is electricity" (all — 1920), "fuel front", "Hey, comrade! (all — 1921) and others. Worked and was friendly with М. М. Черемных, В. В. Маяковским.
