occurred from a wealthy aristocratic family. He studied at the gymnasium of Orel, where he received initial artistic training under the guidance of IA Volkova. Not finishing the course, moved to St. Petersburg and entered the IAH. Engaged in a class of historical painting at TA Neff, and Markov. During the period of training received all existing academic awards: in 1859 he was awarded two small silver medals in 1860 - a large silver medal for the painting "The village witch-doctor" in 1861 - a small gold medal for the painting "Congratulations to the young squire's house, in the 1862 - a large gold medal for the program "Escape Gregory Otrepiev from the inn on the Lithuanian border." In the same year, released from the IAH class artist with a rank of 1 st degree and a pensioner's right to travel abroad for six years. During the studies carried away by the music, made friends with the composers MA Balakirev, AN Serov, A. C. Cui. In 1862 he entered the Moscow Society of Art Lovers.

in May 1863 as a pensioner IAH went to Europe. He visited Germany, Belgium and Switzerland. In 1864 he worked in Florence in 1865 - Paris, in 1866 - Spain. For family reasons he returned to Russia in May 1866, before the pensioner's life. Until March 1867 he lived in the province of Tula. In the spring of 1867 again went abroad. Visited the World Exhibition in Paris, he settled in Florence, where he met with Nikolai Ge and AI Herzen.

In March 1869 he returned to Russia. Lived alternately in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tula, Kharkov, Poltava, Crimea. In 1870, for the painting "spell (of the folk beliefs)" was awarded the title of academician. In the same year he became one of the founders TPHV, author of the first charter of the Association. From 1872 served on the association board.

In 1902, resigned from the IAH, expressing disagreement with the formal approach to training in the Academy. In recent years he lived mostly in his estate Pavlenko at Poltava.

Myasoedova memorial exhibition was held in Poltava (1912) and Moscow (1913).

Myasoedov - an outstanding Russian artist of the second half of the XIX century, one of the most consistent and active members of TPHV, representative of critical realism. He worked mainly in the field of easel painting, created the paintings on the social and historical subjects, landscapes. Rarely spoke to the portrait.

In the later period (1890 - 1900-e), the artist completely abandoned the critical early in the painting, the dominant in his work began to landscape, different variety of motives, delicate lyricism and consistently realistic approach to nature.
