ALEXANDROVSKY Spiridonov

from a merchant family, the brother of the artist and photographer JF Alexander. General education in Riga Classical Gymnasium. Originally prepared to enter the Medical Faculty of the St. Petersburg University, however, fascinated by the arts and enrolled at IAH (1861-1869). He studied first in the class of historical painting by FA Bruni and Markov, then specialized in watercolor painting. In 1861, for "Self", executed in watercolor, was awarded a small silver medal. In 1864 was promoted neklassnogo (free), painter, in 1868 - the title of class artist of 2 nd degree, in 1869 for "watercolor portraits of Mr. Mack and Princess Mescherskaya" - the title of class artist 1-st degree.

lived in St. Petersburg. In 1874, a watercolor portrait of the Minister of War DA MILYUTINA elected an academician of watercolor paintings from 1884 - an honorary associate of the Academy free IAH. Since 1883 - Member of the Society for the Encouragement of Arts. Traveled to Sweden (1886), Palestine (1888-1889), Finland (1889).

Participated in academic announcements (1860-1888, intermittently). Exhibited his works at the World Exhibition in London (1872) and Paris (1878), 6-th exhibition TPHV (1878-1879), 3rd exhibition of the Society of exhibitions of works of art (1879). One of the founders and active members of the Russian Mug watercolors (1880), transformed in 1887 by the Society of Russian watercolors, from 1883 to 1889 - a permanent participant of exhibitions of the Society. He performed the technique in watercolor album of representatives of Central Asian peoples, who were in Moscow during the coronation of Emperor Alexander III (1883), a series of portraits of gentlemen mark of military orders, were present in St. Petersburg, a monument of Fame (1886), portraits of members of the embassies of the Emir of Bukhara (1886 and 1889 ), an album of drawings and sketches made during a trip to the East (1888-1889). He has also worked in pastels, sepia image.

Works of Alexander are in many museum collections, including the State Tretyakov Gallery, State Hermitage, the Pushkin Museum im. Pushkin and others.
