from a peasant family. In 1874-1888 he studied at MUZHVZ, first as an irregular, since 1880 - a constant student at Perov, IM Pryanishnikova, Vladimir Makovsky, E . Sorokin. In 1881 and 1883 awarded small silver medals. In 1886, for now "recovering (the bed convalescing friend)" was a great silver medal and the title of the class artist. In the years of study gave private drawing lessons.

lived in Beli, near Moscow, since 1896 - in Mozhaisk. He painted pictures of everyday scenes, portraits, landscapes, still lifes, still in his work peredvizhnicheskie tradition. From 1881 - participant of exhibitions (student's, MUZHVZ). Exhibited his works at exhibitions of the Moscow Society of Lovers of Fine Arts (1889-1906, 1908-1909, 1911; since 1891 - member MOLH) TPHV (1889, 1893-1894, 1899, 1903, 1908), Saint-Petersburg Society of Artists (1895 , 1898-1900, 1902-1909, 1912-1913, 1917; since 1899 - Member of the Company), the All-Russia industrial and agricultural exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod (1896), Autumn exhibitions in the halls of the IAH (1908, 1909, 1912) and others.

In 1912-1930 he taught in the graphical department in Mozhaiskom real school. In the Soviet era acted portraits of revolutionary leaders - Lenin, Lunacharskii, paintings on the theme of the Civil War and the construction of a new society. In the exhibition activities did not take part.

Gorokhov works are in several museum and private collections, among them - the State Tretyakov Gallery, State Russian Museum, Art Gallery of the city Mozhdysk and others. Part of the artistic heritage of the artist was destroyed during the occupation Mozhaiskogo district in 1942-1943.
