Biographical information about the artist scarce.

born in a family court attendant. In 1869 entered MUZhViZ, worked under the guidance of VV Pukireva, ES Sorokin and Vasily Perov. In 1876, for the painting "Rest oxen in the field" was awarded a large silver medal. In 1880 he received the title of the class artist.

lived and worked in Moscow. In 1878 he became a member of the Moscow Society of Art Lovers, since 1881 has exhibited his works at exhibitions of the Society (until 1903, with interruptions). From 1886 to 1924 participated in the artistic circle of "Environment" (Shmarovinskie environment).

In 1890 he traveled to Russia.

From 1897 to 1913 intermittently participated in exhibitions of the St. Petersburg Society of Artists.

After the October Revolution was a member of the Commission for the Protection of works of art and antiquities at the Moscow Soviet. In 1917-1918 was a member of Society of Moscow Artists "Link". Author memories of MUZhViZ.

worked as a genre painter, landscape painter and portraitist. He turned to the technique of lithography. Engaged book graphic, illustrated works of Russian classics and folklore.

Bogatova works are in several museum and private collections, including the State Tretyakov Gallery.
