from a family servant. Studied in the men's classical gymnasium in Shuya (1900-s - early 1910-x), Ivanovo College of Music (1914-1916), from which he graduated with a gold medal. In 1916 he moved to Moscow. Took lessons in painting and drawing in the studio PI Kälin (1916-1918). Continued his education at the State of free art workshops - Higher Art (1918-1924) by AE Arkhipov, P. Konchalovsky, II Mashkova.

lived in Moscow. He painted landscapes, portraits, still lifes. In the early work was influenced by masters of "Jack of Diamonds". A series of works devoted to Moscow (1920-40-e). From 1918 - participant of exhibitions. One of the founders of the association "Genesis" (1921-1930), member of the Board (until 1928). Member and exhibitor of the Society of Moscow Painters "(1925, 1929, member since 1929). Also participated in the 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd State traveling exhibition of paintings (1925, 1929, 1931), exhibitions of "socialist construction in Soviet art" (1930), "Crimea and the Caucasus - resorts of the USSR" (1931) in Moscow, "Artists of the RSFSR XV Years" (1932-1934) in Leningrad and Moscow, many republican and all-Union exhibitions. Held solo exhibitions in Moscow (1950, 1957, 1966).

was engaged in teaching. Managed working studio House of Culture Derbenevskaya chemical plant. Member of USSR Union of Artists. Honored Artist of the RSFSR.

works are in many museum collections, including the State Tretyakov Gallery, State Russian Museum, the museums of Orenburg, Ulyanovsk, Stavropol, Penza, Petrozavodsk, Tomsk, Tyumen, Alma-Ata others.
