Xan (Christian Cornelius) Kron has established himself as an important figure of the Russian avant-garde movement of the early twentieth century. Its appearance in 1900-х years coincided with the formation of Norwegian modernism, represented by such painters as Ludvig Karsten, Per Krogh, Axel Revold, Jean Heiberg and creative. However, the fate of the Crown was absolutely different. He was the only Norwegian artist of his generation who studied at the Imperial Academy of arts in Saint-Петербурге, and the rise of his art came in a period of life in Russia.

In 1906 Krohn, who was forced to leave the Academy, went to Munich, where he appeared in the circles of Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky, one of the founders of abstract art and the founder of the group "Blue Rider". Next was Paris, and studying in several academies, one of which he met a Russian aristocrat-шведского origin, artist Julia de Holmberg who later married. In Paris Kron met with Aristarkh Lentulov, Maria Vasilyeva and Love Popova, whose art had an enormous influence on the creativity Chart. Thanks to them bright colors and geometric shapes are the key elements in the artist's works.

After graduation, Kron and his wife Julia moved to Kiev, where he joined a progressive circle of artists, which included Alexandra Exter, Alexander Bogomazov and brothers burlyuks. In 1909, after the participation in the exhibition "World of art" work of the Crown was marked by such masters as Ivan Bilibin, Boris Kustodiev and Nicholas Roerich.

In 1912, when Xan and Julia Kron lived in Kiev, was held the first Moscow exhibition of the Crown with "Jack of diamonds" — progressive art group founded by Mikhail Larionov and Natalia Goncharova, which belonged to Aristarchus Lentulov, Petr Konchalovsky, Robert Falk, Ilya Mashkov.

In 1917, despite the revolutionary turmoil in the streets of Moscow, 9 November held its last exhibition "Jack of diamonds" in St. Michael's salon on Bolshaya Dmitrovka. Crowns put 4 works: "still life", "Sunflower", "Boat on the river" and "Etudes". In addition to his exposition was attended by 16 Russian artists, but the "Jack of diamonds" was not the same: by the time many members of the society left it.

the Success of the Crown in Russia also contributed to his close relationship with Kazimir Malevich.

Xan Krohn wrote two collector Shchukin, stored in the Hermitage. The artist is represented in the National gallery in Oslo, the art Museum in Bergen, as well as many museums and galleriesaround the world and private collections.

In the "Gallery Mikhailov" presents more than 50 works of Xan and Julia Kron and two of the son's work — Oleg Crown from the collection of Irina and Oleg Polovinkin (Norway), fully reflects the avant-garde discoveries of the twentieth century.
