In the Moscow Museum of modern art opens the exhibition of one of the most famous artists of the Russian Abroad
Haim-Якоб Lipchitz (1891-1973) was born in the Grodno region, at that time part of the Russian Empire (modern Lithuania). In Paris, Jakob became Jacques, came about 18-летнем age. In France, he first studied in art school and then at a private Academy Julien. And so it remained. They rented a small Studio in Montparnasse and plunged into the turbulent life of the Parisian Bohemia. His friends were Picasso, Modigliani, Chaim Soutine, Juan Gris, and others.
At least until 1930-х years Lipschitz sympathized with the Bolsheviks, were inspired by the successes of Soviet power and even as the forces collaborated with the Soviet Union on the artistic front. The artist was in the group "Blow", was a member of the Association of revolutionary writers and artists, and in 1928 he exhibited his works at the exhibition of Modern French art in Moscow.
With the outbreak of the Second world war, Lipchitz moved from Paris to new-Йорк. By the time he was already a famous and successful sculptor. In 1946 the artist was awarded the Legion of honor. In 1957-м in the U.S. the IOM held a large retrospective exhibition, and a year later, Lipchitz became an American citizen. The sculptor was buried in Jerusalem.
