Tretyakov gallery presents an exhibition dedicated to the 170-летию Viktor Mikhailovich Vasnetsov (1848-1926) and 65-летию from the opening day at Home-музея V. M. Vasnetsov. The exhibition displays original photographs and archival materials covering the period from the start of construction of the mansion before the opening of the memorial Museum. Of the paintings on display are recent self-portrait of V. M. Vasnetsov (1913), portraits of relatives and friends of the artist — custodians and creators of the Museum. The exhibition features 12 portraits of, 35 photos and 11 archival documents.

History of the memorial house-музея in the lane Vasnetsov began in 1894, when Victor Mikhailovich Vasnetsov, selecting a quiet district Meshchansky streets for his project he built a house. The first floor was the living room were on the first floor workshop. The artist lived here with his family: wife Alexandra Vladimirovna, daughter Tatiana and sons — Boris, Alexei, Mikhail and Vladimir.

Many well-known pictures of Surikov was written or finished in the workshop of the house. Among them — "Sirin and Alkonost. A song of joy and sorrow" (1896), "Tsar Ivan Vasilyevich the terrible" (1897), "Bogatyrs" (1898, all — TG), "Bayan" (1910, RM). The ceiling height allowed the artist to work on large religious compositions for the St George Cathedral in Gus-Хрустальном, Church of Resurrection (Savior on spilled Blood) in St.-Петербурге and Cathedral. Alexander Nevsky in Warsaw. The last decade of his life he wrote in the Studio painting from the series "Poem of seven fairy tales" (1901-1926).

the Idea of creating a memorial Museum was born from the heirs immediately after the death of the master. The first acquaintance of a wide circle of viewers with the artist's home and remaining works was held at the "Posthumous exhibition of paintings and drawings by Viktor Vasnetsov", opened on March 13, 1927. Genre drawings and sketches, landscapes, religious compositions were placed in a classroom, living room and workshop. For the first time viewers saw the paintings of the series "Poem of seven fairy tales", which became for them a real discovery.

In 1933, died the wife of artist Alexandra. The exhibition was closed, but a workshop for-прежнему remained an exhibition hall, and visitors passed along the stone staircase straight up. During the great Patriotic war he made every effort to maintain the building and works who were in it.

In 1948-м, 100-летию since the birth of V. M. Vasnetsov, the heirs made a final decision on the establishment of the memorial Museum. In 1951 the property of the state had transferred the land, house, paintings, drawings and works of decorative-прикладного art. August 25, 1953 ceremonial opening of the Museum. Its first Director was the nephew of artist Dmitrii A. Vasnetsov, chief curator — widow son Alexei, Zinaida K. Vasnetsov-Соколова. The daughter of the artist Tatiana remained here until his death in 1961, transferring to the Museum allthe remaining collections: archives, library and photographs.
this exhibition is housed in the former classroom. The exhibition presents photographs and documents from the memorial Foundation of the House-музея V. M. Vasnetsov, most of which exhibited for the first time. In addition, a portrait gallery of memorial rooms will complement the portraits of relatives and friends of V. M. Vasnetsov made them in different years. The paintings depicted those who lived in this house, kept the legacy of the artist and helped to create a Museum. Among them — portraits of Zinaida Konstantinovna Vasnecova-Соколовой (the first curator) and Alexandra Savvichna Mammoth, lived in the house of Vasnetsov from 1929 to 1942.
