When born Elena Frantsevna etingen (nee. Mininskaya), is not known as the eccentric lady preferred to create their own myths and easily changed the facts of his biography. In the literature, at least, meet dates from 1875 to 1887. It is believed that she was born in the family of a Polish nobleman in the estate of stepanivka on the territory of Ukraine, and grew up in the estate of the Red Becoming in the territory of modern Poland. Marriage of Helena Monchinski with the Baron Otto von Etingen did not last long: a year later the couple broke up and the name remains for life. In 1899 Elena Frantsevna and her cousin Sergey Yastrebov, eagerly passionate about art, gone forever in Europe. Sergey began to study painting at the académie Julian in Paris, and the young Baroness went to multi-year tour of Italy. In 1903-м Helen arrives in Paris, and together with his brother rents an apartment in the street Brea, in Montparnasse. Soon welcome guests of the salon of the Baroness were the legendary artists of the Hive. Then Helen and Yastrebtsov fast friends with the poet Guillaume Apollinaire.

Exhibition in the Pushkin Museum. Pushkin recreates the creative atmosphere of the famous Paris salon of the first half of the twentieth century. The exhibition, composed of approximately five dozen paintings, drawings, objects of arts-прикладного of art and archival documents, can be divided into several main parts: 1) the Salon of the Baroness in 1910-е years; 2) Beloved. Leopold Syurvazha; 3) Serge Fehr and the Cubists; 4) Guillaume Apollinaire and the salon of the Baroness; 5) Creativity Francois Anibu 1920-х and 6) the Work of Serge Fehr in 1920-30-х.

In 1910-х in salon Helene Sochi was a large collection of African sculpture and works by the artist-примитивиста Henri Rousseau (Customs officer). The collection came to see many artists, whose art works presented were in tune. By this time the Baroness and her cousin has moved to the Boulevard Berthier, where have jointly opened the literary-художественный salon. The Baroness came up with the pseudonym Rock grey, which was published.

With Leopold Syurvazha Helen etingen met in 1915. Their romantic relationship, of course, could not but affect the work of both. "From Leopold Ellen took a multi-layered, like a convertible, like theatrical scenery, composition; in turn work Syurvazha became monumental, with a solemn shade, panel" (From the layout to the exhibition "Paris in the evening the Baroness etingen"). A series of portraits, including portraits of friends Helene and her and Syurvazha, this time made by Amedeo Modigliani. However, if the Syurvazha portrait by Modigliani can be seen in this exhibition, the portrait of Helen, alas, lost (inthe exhibition shows only a photo of the picture).

the room devoted To cubism, the works related to the two main branches of the modernist currents of the first group of which are the work of Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, and the other — paintings of representatives of the "Golden section": Jean Mesange and Fernand Leger. In the works of Serge Fehr (by this time a cousin of Baroness Sergei Yastrebov took a new alias — Serge Fehr) to find the characteristics of both groups of Cubists: "In his works he United the force and brevity of the first with a decorative appearance and iridescence of the second".

In 1913 Ellen etingen and Serge Fehr bought the rights to the magazine "Paris nights". From this moment editor-in-chief was Guillaume Apollinaire, and the new owners of the magazine under pseudonyms Rock gray, Leonard pied (both — Helen) and Jean Serous (Sergey Yastrebov) regularly published his articles and essays. In 1914 Guillaume Apollinaire published in a journal of a painting by Andre Derain "Saturday", and soon it was bought by Moscow collector Sergei Shchukin.

In the hall dedicated to Guillaume Apollinaire, exhibited paintings by artists whose work one way or another overlap with the work of the poet and the editor of "Paris nights".

After the revolution, Helen etingen lost all that was left her in Russia. Having lost the ability to patronize artists, all her energy she sent to their own creativity, experimenting in different fields, from painting to decorative-прикладного art and fashion, which became famous under another pseudonym — Francois Anibu.

"Francois Anibu — the embodiment of the spirit that consistently draws poet and critic, artist or a draughtsman to fashion, with the same talent, ingenuity and imagination. Projects of fabrics and embroideries created by the same immediate inspiration, as a Russian, Polish or Scandinavian toys..." (Florent Fels). In the great hall of the gallery includes painting, embroidery, costumes, and decorative vases made Helen etingen in 1920-е years.

Complete the temporary exhibition of the work of Serge Fehr 1920-30-х years. "What makes us among this Russian? — wrote Jean Cocteau. — What charm he has? Because the roads, cows, treesrespond to him. Maybe they stopped it to tell your secrets to. I say one thing: Serge Fehr speaks to our fields, and they are clearly telling him secrets."
