In the Tretyakov gallery opened chamber exhibition, dedicated to 200-летию Sergey Zaryanko — artist, which in his lifetime was sharply criticized proponents of the aesthetics of critical realism

In the permanent exhibition of the Tretyakov gallery presented only two works by masters of mid-nineteenth century ("Portrait of Princess M. V. Vorontsova, and View the White hall of the Winter Palace"), and a separate exhibition allows us to expand understanding of his work. It is small: the exhibited nine works by Sergey Konstantinovich Zaryanko from the gallery, and a portrait of the artist executed by his pupil A. M. Kolesov.

Sergej was born in 1818 in the family of a serf. His father received his freedom, and the family moved from Mogilev province in Saint-Петербург. In the capital he took lessons from M. V. avrorina (portrait of the wife of a teacher Marfy Ivanovny the Aurora is represented in the exhibition). Built in 1834-1838 in the years Sergei Konstantinovich became volnoprihodyaschim student of the Imperial Academy of arts. At the same time he worked in the workshop of A. Venetsianov.

At the beginning of his career, the artist mainly worked on the images of the interiors. The second half of the 1840-х Sergej turned to portrait painting. Gradually, the artist has gained popularity, it's attracted high-ranking customers, including members of the Imperial family, for example, the Princess Maria Vorontsova, whose portrait is considered to be the pearl of the collection of the Tretyakov gallery.

In the 1860-е years thank Zaryanko began to fade. His work was sharply criticized for naturalistic and artisanal approach to nature. New generation of artists is not considered Zaryanko painting interesting, and his work — in tune with the advanced ideas of the epoch.

Therefore, seen in the works Zaryanko "too naturalistic", according to critics, has distanced his portraits from the beautiful art and bring them closer to the portraits. At the end of life the master has largely lost the public's favor. In 1870 the artist died.

However, despite the fact that colleagues sharply criticized the works of Sergei Zaryanko, his work bought by P. M. Tretyakov. And the first acquisition collector was a portrait of the artist's daughter Natalia at a young age ("Girl in a blue dress", 1870). Painter A. G. Goravsky recommended portrait of Pavel Mikhailovich, "a Very good painting, naturally executed, all head in the shadows, stand out against the bright blue sky and the blue dress... Easy and completely filled and not slicked. Many are interested in it and, in my opinion, worthy of gallery the destination". "Do not lick" — sharp and very precise definition at the time, an important criterion was evaluated contemporary painting.

In the portrait of a little daughter wonderful "fashioned" children's head is set against the light, as if enveloped in a soft, bright celestial background that only enhances the believability of the image. the exhibition in the Museum presents all types of genre of portraits in which the artist worked: the main one ("Portrait of Princess M. V. Vorontsova", 1851), group ("family Portrait Turczaninovii", 1848), chamber ("the Portrait of F. I. Pryanishnikov", after 1844), military portrait in uniform ("Portrait of A. D. Ponomarev", 1855) and the portraits by the daguerreotype ("Portrait of Countess O. E. Shuvalova", 1870).

Despite the technical achievements of those years, the art of photography is still inferior to the painting in many ways. Virtuoso painting was able to convey the warmth and freshness of the colors, the immediacy and liveliness of relaxed postures and even to catch a moment like this we can watch the family portrait Turczaninovii.

Sergey Konstantinovich Zaryanko contributed to the development of national schools of painting and as an artist and as an art theorist and as a teacher. In 1856 he was appointed inspector and a senior Professor at the Moscow school of painting and sculpture, where among his students were V. G. Perov, V. V. Pukirev, I. M. Prianishnikov, V. E. makovskii.

the Work of S. K. Zaryanko rarely appears at auction. A record price for the painting is $56 155 as it was paid for "Portrait of Tsar Alexander III" 9 December 2013. The lower end of the estimate was exceeded in 5 times. Second place in the top three most expensive paintings Zaryanko now is "Portrait of Tsarevich Nikolai Alexandrovich", sold on 30 November 2004 for $46 675.
