"And the light on the scene." Peter Williams and Alexander Konovalov

Tonight at the Museum АРТ4 opens exhibition from the collection of art critic and researcher Lubov Agafonova and gallery "vellum"

This is another show collectors and galleries who are already in their second decade returning to the center of artistic and scientific interest, the names of the great Russian authors, whose work is still waiting for true confessions.

the protagonists of the exhibition "the light on the stage" were Alexander Konovalov and Peter Williams, artists with very different fates, who worked in Russia in the most difficult years of the twentieth century and, in spite of everything, who was able to convey in his work the joy and beauty of life. The exhibition presents more than thirty works of these authors, in order to fully appreciate their talent and perception of the world.

We are well known to many of the names of the epoch of decadence, marked in Russian art of the rise of symbolism. Mikhail Vrubel and Aleksandr Benois, Vyacheslav Ivanov and Anna Akhmatova, Nijinsky and IDA Rubinstein. At the same time there were amazing artists who have not participated in the rapid exhibition activities, are not part of associations and groups, but create works of art no less power than their contemporaries, the eminent master. One such author was S. Alexander Konovalov.

She was born in Moscow in 1889. Under the influence of poetic sentiment and the suffragette aspirations for independence, fourteen-year-old girl in 1903 he enrolled at the Stroganov school. In 1906 the school was temporarily closed, and Konovalov with his friends went to Paris, where he stayed for about a year, visited the Studio Colarossi, honed eyes in the halls of the Louvre and drew inspiration from a café in Montmartre.

Alexander Konovalov has survived all the disasters of the Civil war in Ukraine, but in 1934 he left (according to others, was sent) to Chukotka, where she was one of the first in the USSR, appealed to the works to life, rituals and everyday life of indigenous peoples of the far North.

Peter V. Williams (1902-1947) — son of an American engineer-мостовика invited to work in Russia in the XIX century, three times winner of the Stalin prize, today known primarily as an artist and scenographer who apply the classical ballet of the Bolshoi theatre. In the 1919-1924 years he studied in VKhUTEMAS fromsuch artists as Vasily Kandinsky, Ilya Mashkov, Konstantin Korovin, David Shterenberg. From 1929 he worked as a theater artist, creating unique images of the performances of theaters Vakhtangov and Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Данченко. In 1941 Peter Williams — the main artist of the Bolshoi theatre.

During the war, to the list of feature productions added performances of the ballet troupe of the NKVD, which for touring the frontal zone was created murals with cheerful motifs of nature. This period include panels dedicated to the Union republics, as well as the work of a revolutionary, Leninist theme. Some of these works were lost during the war, some kept in the collection of the Bakhrushin Museum. Works from this series are from the collection of Lubov Agafonova demonstrates for the first time.
