the works of Ivan Bilibin — of his heroes, Heat-птицы and characters of Russian epics — is familiar to any Russian schoolboy. An outstanding representative of the Association "World of art" has created his own recognizable and unique, "Bilibino" style. His work is primarily associated with the famous illustrations — of the poems of Pushkin's "Ruslan and Ludmila", "Tale of Tsar Saltan", "the Golden Cockerel", "the Song about merchant Kalashnikov" by Mikhail Lermontov, to the fairy tale "Konyok-горбунок" Ershov. Less known for his painting and theatre graphics. In Russia and abroad, he created sketches of scenery and costumes for Opera and ballet productions, including "Boris Godunov" by Mussorgsky, "Prince Igor" by Borodin, "the Tale of Tsar Saltan" and "Sadko" by Rimsky-Корсакова, "Fever-птица" by Stravinsky.
Bilibin gained recognition in Russia, after the revolution emigrated first destiny led him to Egypt, then to France, and in 1936 he returned to the Soviet Union and died in Leningrad during the first winter of the siege. Amazing life.
No less surprising is the fate of the collection, which brought to the exhibition at Moscow's Tsaritsyno. Provincial Ivangorod in the Leningrad region, located on the border with Estonia, today has an exceedingly full collection of works by Ivan Bilibin (about 300). All thanks to his stepson Mstislav Potocki. He was looking for the Museum where the richest collection of art of his stepfather, Ivan Bilibin and his mother by Alexander Alexandra schekatihinoy-Потоцкой could be presented in the exhibition most fully, and not gathered dust in the vaults. Remember Potocki stories stepfather on a trip to Germany in 1937, the house on the banks of the Narova, where he stayed, where we could see wonderful views of both fortresses along the banks of the river. By fate this house was the only merchant mansion of Ivangorod, surviving in the Great Patriotic war. First, there was an art school, and in the late 1970-х they decided to make a Museum. Mstislav Potocki familiar with the Director of the Ivangorod art school, took it as a good sign and in 1980 he made the new Museum a Royal gift — gave the whole collection of his stepfather. Since then, Ivangorod became the center of attraction for the fans of Ivan Bilibin.
the visitors of the exhibition "Ivan Bilibin. Blossoming tree" in the Great Palace of Tsaritsyno is a unique opportunity to get acquainted with a considerable part of the collection of the Ivangorod Museum, with exhibits from Ladoga istoriko-краеведческого Museum, the Museum "stationmaster House" and Museum-усадьбы Priyutino. The exhibition presents 101 exhibit: drawings by Bilibin on display are combinedfolk costumes, folk, old book, icon.
