Petersburg, Universitetskaya embankment, 17, flat 5 — here in the building of the Academy of arts, in a service apartment lived Professor S. K. Isakov — stepfather of the brothers Nikolay and Lev Bruni.

Critic and theorist of the avant-garde. N. N. Puning in his memoirs called "apartment No. 5" a creative community of young artists, poets, musicians, writers, critics, gathered here in mid-1910-х years. The "core" of "apartment No. 5" was Lev Bruni, Nikolai Tyrsa, Pyotr Miturich, Nathan Altman, Petr Lvov, Nikolay Punin, who regarded their teachers Vladimir Tatlin, and Velimir Khlebnikov.

the Commonwealth, originated in the walls of apartment no 5, subsequently went beyond this one place. It was to mark the General trend in the art of Petrograd, which can be traced back to the mid 1920-х years. Expanded the circle of artists ranked as "apartment No. 5": it included Nikolay Lapshin, Vladimir Lebedev, Nikolay Kupreyanov, Alexey Uspenskiy.

Exhibition of the Russian Museum will help us to imagine what was the situation of art more than a hundred years ago. "Apartment No. 5" — significant phenomenon of the Russian avant-garde, without which its history would not be complete.

the exposition includes about 150 paintings and graphic works from the collection of the Russian Museum, the Tretyakov gallery, the state Central theatre Museum im. A. A. Bakhrushin, NIM RAKH, and also the Moscow and St. Petersburg private collections.
