At London's National portrait gallery opens exhibition of portraits from TG

In the framework of the cultural exchange Year of Russia and great Britain in the London brought of 26 portraits of Tretyakov gallery — works of Repin, Serov, GE, Vrubel and other Russian masters

In the framework of the Year of cultural exchange between Russia and great Britain at the National portrait gallery in London opens an exhibition of 26 portraits from the collection of the State Tretyakov gallery. The exhibition is also timed to celebrate 160-летия since the Foundation of the two museums (the Tretyakov gallery, and national portrait gallery was founded in 1856). The exhibition in London titled "Russia and the arts: the era of Tolstoy and Tchaikovsky" will last until the end of June.

And from 21 April to 24 July in Moscow will bring a return exhibition from London — "From Elizabeth to Victoria. English portrait from the collection of the National portrait gallery, London".

the exhibition at the National portrait gallery will be presented a key to the portraits of outstanding figures of Russian culture — writers, artists, composers, patrons and so on. The time frame of the presented papers cover the period from 1867 to 1914. The exhibition reflects the development and flourishing of Russian realistic school in the portraits of 1870-80-х, and its further evolution to impressionism and symbolism.

the exhibition starts with the famous portrait of Pavel Tretyakov brushes Repin (1901). A special place in the exposition is the portraits in Britain of Russian writers — Fyodor Dostoevsky (portrait Vasily Perov 1872) and Leo Tolstoy (portrait Nikolai GE, 1884). Among other masterpieces — "Portrait of Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky's" the work Nikolai Kuznetsov (1893), "Portrait of Vladimir dal" by Vasily Perov (1872), Repin's "Portrait of writer I. S. Turgenev" (1874), "Anton Chekhov" Osip Braz (1898), "modest Mussorgsky" Repin (1881), three portrait Valentin Serov ("Ivan frost", 1901; "in the Summer. Portrait of O. F. Serova", 1895; "Portrait of M. N. Yermolova", 1905), "Anna Akhmatova" Olga Della-Вос-Кардовской (1914) and others.

Is the most significant exhibition of Russian portraits in the UK of all that have ever been conducted. Suffice it to say that most of the portraits in the exhibition came from the main exhibition of the Tretyakov gallery.
