a New exhibition project of the Yaroslavl art Museum dedicated to the works of one of the acclaimed artists — Vasily Vasilyevich Vereshagin@ Small number of the works, the exhibition provides a comprehensive view of all the genres, topics and trends of the artist. The viewer will see the paintings and sketches created by Vereshchagin on the results of numerous trips to Turkestan, India, the theater of the Russian-Turkish and Spanish-American wars, in Vologda, Krym@ Almost all life Vereshchagin was held in trips: Turkestan, India, the Balkans, Palestine, Crimea, Caucasus, Russian North, USA, Japan. In their daring and risky travels he was a tireless researcher of culture and customs of different peoples. In the numerous sketches he recorded all he had seen, interesting. While small pieces of canvas or wood were not runaway journey sketches — they are complete, in fact, are paintings, only smaller. Few people better than he could cope with the problem of ethnographic drawings and sketches, executed with amazing skill. "He's watching very carefully everything that gets into his eyes, and hence its pronounced realism. But the artistic nature Vereshchagin does not allow him to cross the border of realism and fall, on the one hand, in the coarse naturalism, and — in photographic protokolizma. Anywhere we don't see his soulless copy of nature, even in small studies," wrote G. Dirks (Berlin, 1886. BerlinerTageblatt). Vereshchagin was not only an artist but also a professional soldier, an officer. A man of great courage and composure, he went back where it was dangerous, where the whistling bullets and the kernel of bloodshed. He described himself as a painter of military scenes, battle scenes and not. In his works he has described the war as a great human drama@ Source: yarartmuseum.ru
