Georg Baselitz at the Russian Museum

In the State Russian Museum opened the exhibition "Georg Baselitz. How it began... Paintings and drawings of the last two decades".

Georg Baselitz (born 1938 in Saxony) is one of the founders of German neo-expressionism. The exhibits included the painted canvases, drawings and watercolors made master over the last two decades. Most of the work belongs to the Albertina Museum (Vienna, Austria) kindly provided the Russian Museum works to show the Petersburg public who are familiar with his painting, "the Bottle and the eagle" (1977-1978), a member of the permanent exhibition "Ludwig Museum in the Russian Museum".

Starting a career at the turn of the 1950s and 60s, as provocative, as "scandalous" the artist, condemning abstract art, Baselitz experimented with subject painting, demonstrated their rejection of modern art and was not alone. The movement of "new wild", to whom he was close, mainly focused on the classic German expressionism, proclaiming a return to figurative art, color, spontaneous methods of creating works. Paintings Baselitz boldly debunked stereotypes, literally turned them "upside down", which is a favorite trick of hudojnika@

In this sense, the works by Georg Baselitz from the iconic series and exhibitions of the 2000s, such as "Monumental watercolors" at the Albertina Museum (Vienna, 2003), "Remix" in the Pinakothek (Munich, 2006), "Russian pictures" at the Museum of contemporary art (Seoul, 2007), the phenomenon of radical and at the same time natural. Spellevent artistic development Baselitz makes impossible the separation of his early and late work. Far more significant is the constant return of the artist to the same fundamental aspects on the following round, the same themes and motifs. The Baselitz is absorbed primarily in fine form, and not the interpretation of any of the plot and statements. It is, on the one hand, the dialogue of the artist with his destiny and gaze on the software product, determining its unique place in the art of the 1960-ies. On the other — a conversation with contemporary, especially German art recognized and appreciate the conversation-think about the possibilities and limits of art, its place in the system of conflicting forces and uliani@
