In the State Russian Museum opened the exhibition "Georg Baselitz. How it began... Paintings and drawings of the last two decades".

Georg Baselitz (born 1938 in Saxony) is one of the founders of German neo-expressionism. The exhibits included the painted canvases, drawings and watercolors made master over the last two decades. Most of the work belongs to the Albertina Museum (Vienna, Austria) kindly provided the Russian Museum works to show the Petersburg public who are familiar with his painting, "the Bottle and the eagle" (1977-1978), a member of the permanent exhibition "Ludwig Museum in the Russian Museum".

Starting a career at the turn of the 1950s and 60s, as provocative, as "scandalous" the artist, condemning abstract art, Baselitz experimented with subject painting, demonstrated their rejection of modern art and was not alone. Far more significant is the constant return of the artist to the same fundamental aspects on the following round, the same themes and motifs.
