«Work Club" on the right went into the history of design of the 1920s as one the most notable works reflecting the aesthetic of constructivism and its commitment to inventive functional solutions.

«Work Club" was conceived by Alexander Rodchenko as a new type of public interior, which was not just a subject-consumer situation, but doing zhiznestroitelnuyu function, providing a formative influence on modern sports and leisure workers. Designed for the Soviet pavilion at the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts and the art industry in Paris, "Work Club" promoted a new understanding of constructivism as the functionality and efficiency of space, as opposed to the aesthetics of bourgeois taste.

architect of the Soviet pavilion at the Fair in Paris in 1925 was one of the leaders of constructivist Konstantin Melnikov and the general decor was engaged in the pavilion Alexander Rodchenko.

«Work Club" Alexander Rodchenko designed based on the concept of multi-functional space in which simple shapes reflected the new aesthetic ideals. Furniture and equipment manufactured in Paris, according to the drawings, and books, posters and photographs brought from Moscow. In the equipment, except furniture and lighting, with folding stand, a wall screen for the display of illustrative material, the corner of Lenin, the setting for the wall newspaper, and much more. Almost all of these things were built on the "moving" principle, which allows you to "expand the subject in his work over a large area and compact fold it after work».

In designing the interior, "Labor Club "widely used methods of transformation, so that one object could easily be converted into another. Center of the room served as a transformation of the folding stand. Equipped with a screen, a retractable wall for posters, exhibits a horizontal podium for speeches or readers, it should serve as a universal setting for lectures, theatrical evenings and talks. Multifunctional were conceived and the remaining items: a table for a reading room in the unfolded state increasing its effective area three times, a chess table for two was arranged with a rotating board so that players can change the color of figures, not rising from their seats.

For the project "Workers' Club" Alexander Rodchenko was a silver medal. At the end of the Paris exhibition was donated to the interior of the Communist Party of France, and Russia has never exhibited.

«Work Club" repeatedly reconstructed on drawings of Alexander Rodchenko and a photograph in 1925 - in whole or in isolated fragments (1979, 1989, 1990, 1991). The practice of including reconstructions of lost objects in the permanent exhibits and exhibitions are widely used in modern museums. Known for Reconstruction Sculpture N. Gabo , kontrrelefov V. Tatlin , spatial objects Rodchenko. Such reconstruction can fill the gaps in the historical presentation of the artistic process and present the work of artists in the necessary completeness.

This reconstruction was done by German experts in 2008 for the exhibition "From the plane to space. Malevich and early modernism "at the Kunsthalle in Baden-Baden and then donated to this museum of the State Tretyakov Gallery for a major contribution to the organization of exhibitions of Russian avant-garde in the major museums of Europe in 2008-2009. Gift is realized with financial support SEPHEROT Foundation (Liechtenstein) and Russian collectors Tsarenkov VV, AV Dadiani AY Smuzikova.
