collection of the Yaroslavl Art Museum, the largest art museum in the Russian provinces, consists of more than 70,000 works of XIII - XXI centuries. A significant part of the collection - the art of XX century, but the section of the exhibition, representing the period, missing since 1987. At first this was due to refurbishment of the main museum building, and then with an active exhibition policy of the museum, which requires display space.

Collection XX century art began to take shape in the Museum since its inception (1919) and continues to grow to this day. A large and varied in structure assembly consists of individual works of prominent artists of the twentieth century, including PV Kuznetsov , AV Lentulov , PI Kotov , AN Samokhvalov , AMGerasimov , EE Moiseenko , A. Slepyshev ; large collection of complexes, in particular the classical avant-garde, represented by names Vasily Kandinsky , Alexandra Exter , O. Project represents the individual sign the museum's collection, writing them in the context of art of the twentieth century. The authors propose a new model of exposition and fairgrounds in a confined space, using special equipment - sliding mobile structures, plasma display panel, allowing the most efficient work with a collection of twentieth century art. The project introduces a permanent exhibition revolve complexes painting, sculpture, graphics, video, providing viewers greater access to obscure parts of the collection.

main exhibition is composed of a number of approved products. It works by masters of Russian vanguard, Socialist Realism, the official and the alternative of Soviet art. Against the background of exchangeable units extend the overall picture, reveal new aspects of art and creativity of artists. In the premiere exhibition in the context of a retrospective show presents the most important masters who gave Yaroslavl twentieth century: MK Sokolov (1885-1947) and AK Petrov (b. 1957).
