Today in the Benois Wing of the State Russian Museum opens an exhibition dedicated to 150 anniversary of the great landscape painter

exhibition of works Isaac Levitan is a continuation of a series of expositions of the Russian Museum, dedicated to the leading masters of the domestic landscape. On display for the first time in full before collection of works by Levitan of the Russian Museum, as well as famous paintings from the collections of the Tretyakov Gallery and Museum Apartments Brodsky. The exhibition, which includes about 100 paintings and drawings, fully reflects the main stages of the creative ways the artist.

a vibrant image of Russian nature, subtle sense of color and tone that allows to capture and convey the emotional state of full-scale motif made Levitan founder of the so-called mood landscapes . Already in the first independent work of this master, made at the beginning of 1880, fully revealed his outstanding scenic talent, able to make a simple landscape consonant with the mood and feelings of the artist and the viewer.

In 1880, the 90-ies, along with landscapes that have a lyrical, a camera, Levitan has created works in which the image of Russian nature finds epic sounding, demonstrating the gravity of the artist to a deeper and broader, philosophical reflection on the world ("Vladimirka", "Above the Eternal Peace", "Lake"). In the last years of his life Levitan showed keen interest in the beautiful outdoor impressionism and art nouveau, which is reflected in a number of his works performed in the second half of 1890. In this regard, Levitan is presented by the artist, sets new ways of development of the picturesque landscape in the domestic arts. But the main problem for the artist remained visibility, credibility in the depiction of landscape reasons to convey his unique poetics of what revealed a strong association of creative searches Levitan with the traditions of Russian realistic landscape of the second half of the XIX century.
