Focus exhibition" Get out of town /Land-Art "(named after the famous action Slovak artist Rudolf Sikora) - the phenomenon of "Treatment of artists to nature" in the tradition of the Slovak, Czech and Russia Actionism and conceptualism with the end of 1960 to 1980, and in some cases up to date. Exposition is based on two principles: the chronological (historical retrospective) and thematic. In seven sections (Games - Holidays - Rituals; Archetypes; Snow; Wanderings; Protection of Nature; The marked Landscape; Reflections) features works by thirty-three artists. Instead of its usual practice of art images of nature on canvas, these authors interpreted nature as his workshop, setting a goal to leave there trace of their presence (Daniela Czarna).

Although land art did not become the determining trend in the Slovak art, most of the informal artists way or another, tried to rethink the landscape and nature generally in the format of conceptual works or shares. Their practice unfolded in parallel with similar phenomena in the art of the United States and Britain, where just at that time arose land art, of course, in Slovakia and one of the genre had its own specific features. Here it was rather a reaction to environmental and ethical issues related to the environment. Slovak land art - are individual and collective statements: actions, celebrations and rituals that are implemented in rural areas (Alex Mlynarchik, Jan Zhelibska, Artprospekt P.O.P.), a private study of nature, its processes and phenomena (Peter Bartos); attempts Introvert communication and "intimate relationship" with nature (Michal Kern, Desiderio He, Daniel Fisher, Milan Mawr, Milos Shane), a literal reflection of environmental problems (Rudolf Sikora, Juraj Melish). Some artists use nature is a central theme, while others refer to it occasionally, using its specific language and space to create a poetic, imaginative and ironic messages (Julius Koller, Lubomir Dyurichek, Otis Laubert, Vladimir Kordosh, Matei Roll, Marian Mudroh, etc.) . Many authors perceive the environment as a place of self-identification, in which they ran away from an alien urban environment. Nature, which was outside of state control, could be a natural haven for the "hidden" performances, but the actions of nature are usually conducted in private, involving only a close circle of artists and invited participants, or just by himself.

Daniela Czarna

In the original exhibition, devised and implemented the curator of Slovakia Daniela Charney, has been shown in the gallery of Bratislava in 2007. The exhibition in Moscow, Russia includes additional unit - "During the fence", which makes it possible to trace the intersection and overlap observed in practice, Russian and Slovak artists in 1960-80-ies.

With the emergence ban on public presentation of works outside the canons of socialist realism in Russia and Slovakia in the 1970's, a host of groups and personal initiatives, which actively promoted the informal stage. Being "over the fence" an official policy on the art of that time, unofficial artists turned to the natural environment, which became the space where they could be outside the control of the State to create and exhibit their works, even for a narrow circle "of their».

In the Soviet situation was even more harshly and artists had to work while in the double-ring isolation. An important time for the Russian intentions authors was to "expand the territory of art" due to the appearance has not yet used the methods and forms. So there was a movement in the direction of space, alien picture plane, not having anything to do with it - to land and natural spaces, to the human body, to consciousness. However, the effect of the laboratory has given very interesting results. The natural environment has become the workshop, where at the intersection of different semantic, aesthetic, empirical, and psychological axes of emerged and formed the new features of the language arts.

exhibition is open to the public from December 1, 2009 to January 10, 2010.
