In the exhibition space on the third floor of the former confectionery factory of «Red October» passes second exhibition organized BAIBAKOV art projects. «WONDERLAND. New Art from London » - a joint project of Maria Baybakovoy, Kathy Sutton and guest curator Nick Hakvorta (Nick Hackworth), the London-based critic and gallery.
«WONDERLAND» brought from London - one of the most international cities in the world with a truly cosmopolitan soul. The British capital today - the concentration of all the current, a city open to international ideas, new people, different cultures. Such confusion and diversity, of course, reflected in the works of contemporary art community to the British capital.
At the exhibition «WONDERLAND. New Art from London »international team of 22 artists living and working in one of the largest mega-cities - London, explores the theme of urbanism, the new nature, the urban aesthetic in a new direction and new concepts in modern to contemporary art-altermodernizma.
architecture and the exhibition curators built landscape as a projection of an abstract of a megalopolis, where every visitor to the exhibition could travel. Get proper quest of all kinds of miracles of art, sharing common themes, concepts and directions. Exhibition space is divided into zones, each of which «miracles of modern art» work by individual groups of artists united by common aesthetic or conceptual ideas. Guests of the exhibition are invited to travel to the city of miracles, to walk through the streets wrapped in a lane or on a corner house, podglyadet what happens in the window opposite, spontaneously enter the theater, talking podslushat wind in the park, suddenly admire invoice chaotically spread debris or bright neon lights lamps.
Three pillars of the concept of the exhibition can be defined as «NEW NATURE», «ALTERMODERNIZM» and «Urban Romanticism».
Megapolis today - this is an environment in which live half the world's population, which means that for urban residents, there is some new nature with its marvels, riddles, aesthetics and meaning.
This «NEW NATURE», which are born in the space of a modern urban environment and is in the imagination of artists in the art facilities at the opening of the exhibition visitors could see in the works of artists John Isaaksa (John Isaacs), Nathaniel Rakou (Nathaniel Rackowe ) or Kirk Palmer (Kirk Palmer).
For residents megapolises nature, modified into a totally new daedal things that organically fit into the urban landscape and become its ornaments, as there is something strange bird, or tropical fish in the natural landscape.
Installation artist John Isaaksa «I know this world ... but it is not that what I imagine he was represented ... it is not what I said »arouses many visitors only positive emotions. Sculpture-stub with burning lamps on it not just installation, but one of the most exciting of these urban wonders.
shining installation Nathaniel Rakou LP12, consisting of conventional neon tubes, made at the opening of easily predictable effect. The guests, as zavorozhennye, changed the trajectory of his journey through rooms as soon as noticed a bright light. Prischurivayas and otstavlyaya in the glasses with champagne, the spectators are grouped near the installation in an attempt to discern, it is possible that something important inside the empty space neon design.
video Kirk Palmer - charming black and white video «Shelest» (Murmur). Six minutes on the screen with a bird's-eye view shown endless bamboo thicket near Tokyo. Wind moves the leaves of evergreen, intertwine with each branch of the sacred plant, and as if the trees breathe in life, and the wood seems to present a live, intelligent and breathing.
A new direction in the current contemporary art and philosophy - ALTERMODERNIZM presented at an international group of artists, among them - a participant in the London Tate Triennale, Briton of Indian origin Shezad Dawood (Shezad Dawood), an artist from Cyprus Mustafa Hulusi (Mustafa Hulusi ) and Ryan Gander (Ryan Gander). Works of art within the framework of this concept are a mixture of directions, the connection of installation, sculpture and video, as well as works in which artists rethinking the legacy of modernism, presented at the abstract and figurative painting.
Author of altermodernizma French art theorist and curator of the London Tate Triennale 2009 Bourriaud Nicolas (Nicolas Bourriaud) in his manifesto Altermodern declared the era of postmodernism and the emergence of a new philosophy of alternative modernism, or altermodernizma. In the manifesto Bourriaud states that «the age of globalization, with its economic, political and cultural aspects of contemporary culture creates a new-altermodernizm. Modern communication processes, migration, and permanent rights movements around the world much changed way of life residents megapolis, and replacing multiculturalism and national identity today is creolization, mixture of races and cultures, there is «a new universalism», which is organized on the basis of infinite transfers, subtitling and dubbing . Today's actual art is at the intersection of the borders of text and images, time and space ».
Head of a new direction, one of Tate Triennale 2009 - Shezad Dawood brought to Moscow and video installation «View» (Feature). The installation occupies a central place immediately after the entrance of the exhibition space and is a «salun» in the Wild West, inside of which is equipped with «Cinema» - a cinema, where the actual video is shown. Video Shezada Davud - this is a movie-parody, which is a mixture of genres, comedy, opera, Western, where the actors speak and the author himself, and a professional opera singer from the Royal Danish Opera, and representatives of sex minorities, and even ... the Chinese football team.
an important role in the concept of altermodernizma is the theme of emigration and multiculturalism. The artist of Turkish origin Mustafa Huluzi in their first glance at the abstract and painterly light work «Ecstasy blossoming almond 4» raises political and social problems of migration, in particular the division of the island of Cyprus - their homeland. Next two images - Photoreaslistic ruddy almond tree and the black-and-white abstraction. They relate to each other, just as one get on the ground are two different people. For the artist's native Turkish part of the island will always be a heavenly garden with blossoming almond trees, although in reality it is the same abstraction, as well as its image in the work itself.
For a romantic line in the concept of the exhibition with the artists, exploring the aesthetics of urbanism. Allure ROMANCE megapolis they are trying to see and feel, even classical music - as in the three-video artist Idris Khan (Idris Khan) «A few last piano sonatas ... on Franz Schubert», or to consider the aesthetics of the club bright - as, for example, Gary Webb (Gary Webb). The artist, inspired by the romance of city night life, creates a combined three general ideas work - «Blue split», «Orange split» and «Find me», which constitute a sort of sign installations, composed of dozens of sparkling mirror plates; gloss of the installation refers spectator to the glamor and entertainment culture aesthetics never sleeping metropolis.
Designer Justin Kumbs (Justin Coombes) combines in its three photo poetry and drama of the city, dreams and reality and wishful thinking. In one of his works «aristocrats (to Brian Jones)» Justin Kumbs, inspired by the famous photograph of Brian Jones and Keith Richards, an image with the mounted, superimposed on each other personnel. Far nothing remarkable suburban landscape in the immediate consideration is grassy with sitting in front of people instead of manikins and scattered on the green lawn debris, a glow predzakatnogo the sun, which provides the background - it is just showy eyes light urban lights.
In addition to video, installations, sculptures, paintings, multimedia, at the opening ceremony guests saw two performance - the artist Argentine origin Fornieles Eloise (Eloise Fornieles) and British Birkina David (David Birkin).
Eloise Fornieles introduced performance «carrion» (Carrion), who refers to the subject of criticism of consumer society. During the performance the artist is always in disguise second-hendovskuyu clothing scattered everywhere, it is completely exposed, cut with a knife in limbo animal carcass visitors note of apology and thanks. The work explores the theme of excess consumption, the flesh, the material things in the world today. By Performance believes that the fact that all this is a modern man, he must at least sometimes, stopping, and be able to repay or to apologize.
Performance British artist David Birkina «accord» (Concord) is a performance of sonatas by Charles Ayvza piano with cut strings, no sound. By the fingers of a pianist artist assigns diode bulbs, and during the execution of works by the artist captures the movement of hands, opening and closing the camera lens at the beginning and end of musical phrases. Performance refers to experiments with the mechanization of production and manual labor early XX century. But in contrast to the production performance of experiments for Birkina - an experiment to experiment, experience, redefining modernism, silent musical avant-garde, not in discord with the Schubert, which echoes spread to neighboring rooms.
At the opening of special popularity among the guests, but two performances, enjoyed the work party's future autumn Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art Conrad Shoukrossa (Conrad Shawcross) «Slow arc in a cube II». The intrigue was that the boundaries, and then down the stairs to the closed white room, the visitors were in an enclosed space with a certain structure in the cell located in the center. The simplest mechanism with a rotating light placed in a cube, went in motion, and born drivers falling shadows moving across the surface of the room. The audience proved the power mechuschihsya, troubled shadows. This simple in terms of science and physics of experience in the space of this exhibition was perceived as a spectacular attraction, but rather, even as an ordinary English miracle.
mysterious wonders could be described as two works that are truly able to see and understand only a particularly erudite and inquisitive visitors. Installing James Hopkins (James Hopkins) «The last days of sunshine» presents at first glance an ordinary rack with shelves and rasstavlennymi them gilded objects - music speakers, electric guitar, plates, glasses, candles, mirrors, and champagne. The most attentive found in this song is not just secular luxury still life, and the image of the skull, which creates rasstavlennye at a certain distance of objects. The interior environment of the studio rock star or just an amateur prosperous golden plate at the front was turned into a modern vanitas, unobtrusively reminiscent of the perishability of life.
Massuh disputes and heated discussion sparked work Douglas White (Douglas White) «Board». Installation, which is the composition of the two molten bins, found the artist on the streets of London, very organically fit into the romantic image of megalopolis, with its urban landscape aesthetics of the exhibition. Molten art objects Douglas Whyte in their interaction with the surrounding space can be compared perhaps only with «open forms» famous English sculptor Henry Moore. Douglas Whyte in processed altermodernistskoy of one's own tradition interprets monumental figurative plastics famous artist.
