Neangazhirovannye artists of the mid-twentieth century, which belonged to Mary Lomakina were equally far from both the avant-garde, and from socialist realism. Their creativity is now recognized as a «third way» in the art of the Soviet period, still largely in the heirs, and in private collections, it is not known to the public. Only in recent decades, their works into the collection of major museums. Among these half «islands» true legacy MV Lomakin (1896-1964).

The first museum exhibition is one of the great masters of «quiet art» covers the whole of the creative artist's path from 1910 till 1960. Student KS Petrov-Vodkin , MV Lomakina worked in painting, drawing, arts and crafts, has been copying and scientific reconstruction of the ancient Russian painting. Lomakina Maria Vladimirovna was born in Crimea in the St. Petersburg intelligentsia family: her father was involved in the device Nikitsky Botanical Garden. In 1910 she studied at the Higher Women's Courses in Moscow, alongside visiting art «Studio K. Юона ». He made his debut as a painter in the 1919-m.

In 1923, the Crimean Union of Arts has sent Lomakina in Petrograd Academy of Fine Arts, where she entered the studio of a monumental office in KS Petrov-Vodkin. In 1927, defended her dissertation work, consisting of a wall painting project «Protection of maternity and child» and scientific studies «Artistic style frescos church Spasa Nereditsa», which included copies of frescoes (the work was recommended for publication). In the future, the artist gave a lot of scientific reconstruction of the ancient Russian art, particularly frescoes of St. Sophia Cathedral in Kiev and the Church of Our Savior on Nereditsa under Novgorod. According to her copies of wall painting to recreate the face of the Savior on Nereditsa destroyed during the Great Patriotic War.

In 1931 Lomakina was seconded from the sector of arts Narkomprosa Russia to work on «On the tobacco plantations» in the Crimea, where, in addition to drawing tabakovodov Labor and the tenants and the thumbnail pictures to create a lot of portraits and landscapes; later genre will dominate the landscape in her art. Since 1933, when Maria Lomakina was married to the sculptor Alexis Smith, comes from the family of hereditary masters of crafts village Podmoskovny Bogorodskoye, and days before the end of her life and work were associated with Zagorsky (now Sergiev Posad). In the years 1933-36 she developed designs for toys Zagorsky scientific and experimental institute toys. In 1959-62 years taught drawing in the Abramtsevo Art and Industrial College.

Most recent landscape painter based in the traditions of Old Russian and Renaissance frescoes devoted to nature and architecture of Moscow, especially the Trinity-Sergius Lavra and its surrounding areas. Lack of material caused a small, sometimes close to the miniature size of the picture, but it has always sought to reach the panoramic space, to a high degree of generalization of field experience. Art M. Lomakina like set himself the task to show every corner of the world as part of universal harmony, has a monumental scale, with a pronounced lyrical painting.

For the retrospective collection of over a hundred paintings and drawings of Mary Lomakina, as well as sketches in the field of decorative art from the collections of the Tretyakov Gallery, where they fell after the first exhibition of the artist (Moscow, MOSH, 1993), as well as Russian Museum, the Museum of Eastern Art Museum of Georgia. However, the exposure is dominated by works of M. Lomakin, stored in the assembly of the daughter of artist M. Lomakin and specially restored.

The exhibition is open from 26 September to 15 December 2008 in the halls of TG 21 and 22 on the Crimean shaft 10.
