Moscow Museum of Modern Art presents French videoart
From September 11 to November 2, 2008 in the Moscow museum of modern art can be seen in the works of French video art exhibition entitled Translation
Today, the Moscow Museum of Modern Art opens an exhibition entitled Translation, which is present for the Russian audience the latest works of the French video. It passes through a formal program in anticipation of the Year of France in Russia. The museum exhibition of this level and scale, devoted exclusively to French video, is carried out in Russia for the first time.
At the turn of XX - XXI centuries, video has become a universal means of artistic expression because of its shape and the technical ability to best meet the rapid pace of today's life. However, despite its accessibility, this kind of art is often still not quite clear a wide audience, in contrast to the traditional genres - painting, sculpture and even photography. Video requires special treatment, thoughtful and careful razglyadyvaniya, total immersion in what is happening on the screen.
Moscow Museum of Modern Art has extensive experience in studying and showing of video art, as in recent years, the video is an integral part of nearly every major exhibition. And in 2007 the museum was the first of its kind large research exhibition «The history of Russian video art. Volume 1 », carried out by the curator Antonio Dzheuzoy.
Examples of French video art selected for the current exhibition curator Olivier Mishlonom demonstrate a variety of trends in contemporary art in France. Eleven works from major museum collections of France brings together the theme of movement - real or symbolic. For example, Laurent Grasso leads to slide ominous dark cloud on the Parisian streets deserted. Guillaume Le Blond itself is in motion at the time of shooting, crossing flooded areas. Jean Kopp, Anri Sala, and Brice Delsperger turn to the problems of mixing languages, cultures and genres.
curator Olivier Mishlon: «Today, the question of reception and transmission of video of us may be more interested in the relationship even with the entertainment arts, and the accelerating process of globalization. Images are transferred quickly, the number of seats increased their production, their geography is no longer confined to the usual western centers. Peripherals are broadcast video and will not be satisfied with only receiving them. Satellite television, rapid growth of the market DVD, YouTube, the availability of equipment for filming (portable video recorder, mobile phones and others) - all combined a broad notion of "video." It is a synonym of "Newspeak", where everyone could talk to (play) and that each could understand (see )».
