Invaluable has published a report on the auction market in the face of a pandemic
According to published reports, already by the middle of April 2020-го in the world conducted on 607% more online-аукционов than in all of 2019
In April-мае 2020, the pandemic and associated quarantine was forced to go online most of the art-рынка, both primary and secondary. Regarding the latter, a large part of the implementation of this transition, took on one of the largest global aggregators online-аукционов — platform Invaluable, since 2009 become online-площадкой for 5 thousand auction houses around the world.
on 2 June appeared the first information about the work of the public part of the art-рынка collected Invaluable during the quarantine.
so, in the words of the Director of Invaluable, Rob Weisberg, in recent months, the number of auction houses on the site of the aggregator increased by 70 %. The most active cooperation of the auction house showed in April and may, but Weisberg believes that the consequences of the incident and the growth of online-присутствия on the site of the new auctions will be felt in a year and a half.
the report noted that with the beginning of universal quarantine public art-рынок (online-часть, at least) have experienced significant shock three days, during which stopped a large part of the process: if March 9, 2020 aggregator recorded about 20%-ный sales growth over the previous year, the 12 March, the figure was -57 % relative to the same date in 2019. It is expected that, as the auction house gradually restore their positions in the new conditions, the number of auctions will once again return to growth by the middle of July this year.
Along with the growing number of auction houses on the site of the aggregator and the total number of trades that they conducted, compared with the same period of 2019, the report noted that the number of owners ' rates has increased during the year by 39 %, while the number of committed purchase customers increased by 52 %. The total amount of all purchases made at the mediation platform, grew by 277 %.
According to published reports, already by the middle of April 2020-го in the world conducted on 607% more online-аукционов than for the whole of 2019.
For some auction houses, the necessity of moving online was a real shock. If the individual home, like house Shapiro in new-Йорке, given their experience online-торгов, adapted fast enough, for many others there was no alternative: go online or shutdown. For example, according to the head of the Paris auction house Tajan Rodica Stewart, "within 10 days, the auction house has gone from a landline to the virtual".
According to Weisberg, widespread care online can have a lasting impact on the auction business. "We see massive growth of our platform; it feeds on the young participants, who are used to buying online and enter into the world of auctions, — he said. — Auction houses began to appreciate this young generation buyers, who prefer to interact with them in digital format. It is unclear what role future auction rooms".
