Ceramic wizard fully reflect the passion of Picasso to new forms of creativity and boundless imagination. Presents a collection of more than 230 lots in a wide price range — from 800 up to 80 000 pounds sterling.

in the Summer of 1946 in the small coastal resort town of Golfe-Juan Picasso first met Susan Dooley and Georges Ramie in their Studio Madura in the town of Vallauris, founded in 1938. Picasso was so shaken by the plastic properties of ceramics that he sat down on the bench and spent the rest of the day, enthusiastically fashioning small figures of animals. This first experience was not in vain and inspired Picasso's fascination with new possibilities of artistic expression and techniques of working with clay. His creative imagination was embodied not only in the decoration of ceramic articles, but also bold experiments with form.

Picasso imbued with the idea of the universality of the ceramic mold. Pottery was affordable for almost any connoisseur of art and as utilitarian items and as decoration of the interior. Suzanne and Ramie gave him the idea to reproduce some of ceramic products in limited editions. The artist has created a 633 series, numbering from 25 to 500 copies. Such series are represented or "variations" of the original forms (empreintes originales), released from the hands of Picasso, but not painted by the artist, and the modified masters from the Studio of the sculpture in accordance with the original version, invented by Picasso or subscription copies of the originals, made by Picasso.

featured auction items:

the Idea of creating a vase Tripod Picasso was born under the impression of ancient ceramic vessels from Cyprus, which the artist showed Suzanne Ramie. The front and back of the vase is decorated with images of Francoise Gilot (the artist's mistress and his Muse), his head rests on her hands. The upper part of the vase supports the basis of three rounded vessels. On the back side of the vase depicted a female breast, and the front portion of the base resembles a sleeve blouses.

"Joueur de diaule" — is the first experience of Picasso in a series of works from ceramics. Picasso conceived of this oblong shape serves as a kind of an analogy of a human head; and the image itself resembles a Faun playing the flute.

"the Bull": When Picasso started working with ceramics, he was fascinated by the idea of a metaphorical reincarnation. On the backside of the pitcher Picasso put the back of the bull, and the tail of the animal serves as its handle. The artist has renounced the use of glaze to preserve the feeling of the roughness of the clay-like skin.

"Track": ceramics of Picasso clearly his fascination with classical characters from Greek mythology — funami, nymphs and centaurs. While working in Vallauris in 1954, Picasso was impressed by the local myth of Provence legendary monster the tarasque — with the head of a lion, the body of the bull, the bear paws and the tail of a Scorpion.

in Addition to the above top-лотов, the auction will also be exhibited so-called "Service with black faces" ("Service visage noir") of 1948, consisting of dishes and 12 plates with images of heads of fauns (estimate: £30,000 to 50,000). One of 100 copies of this table set was presented as a wedding gift to Prince Aly Khan and actress Rita Hayworth.

a Large faience vase of "Gros oiseau Picasso" ("Fat bird") is estimated at £60 000-80 000. Picasso by-своему interprets the image of the mythological Hydra in the form of a bird, with wittily turns the wings of the mythical monsters in a quite utilitarian handle. The front of the pitcher is decorated with a facsimile of Picasso, and on the back is stamped the year of establishment and the name of the place — Vallauris.
