Soviet posters at auction Christie's
Up for auction Christie's October 2, will feature more than 100 rare posters 1894-1988, from a private collection, including about a dozen Soviet posters of the work of the Stenberg brothers, Gustav Klucis, Viktor Koretsky and others.
Christie's auction house on October 2, 2013 will hold an auction "Graphic masterpieces: a century of design", which will feature more than 100 rare posters 1894-1988, from a private collection, formed over 40 years. Estimate of lots range from one thousand to 200 thousand pounds. Eight auctioned posters are of direct relevance to Russian istorii@
Sophie Churcher, specialist of the Department of vintage posters at Christie's: "In the late nineteenth — the beginning of the twentieth century, posters were the primary advertising tool, they had to attract the attention of passers-by in seconds. It should be noted that today the impact of these vintage posters on the viewer hasn't lessened. On these trades are placed the posters, which are usually hung in its place no more than two weeks, after which they broke, and in their place hung other. Such works rarely appear on the market."
Main favorite section of posters with Russian provenance will be to work Vladimir and Georgy Stenberg — Comedy film poster Clyde Brukman and Buster Keaton called "General", made recognizable in the constructivist style (estimate 30-50 thousand pounds).
