The work of British artists at auction Christie's Contemporary Art
Among the top lots of the auction of postwar and contemporary art Christie's Feb. 13 will include works by Francis Bacon, David Hockney, Peter Doig, Damien Hirst and others
February 13 auction house Christie's will hold an evening auction of "Post-War and Contemporary Art", in which the attention of collectors will be offered a selection of the works of the leading British artists of the twentieth century, including Francis Bacon ( 1902-1992), Allen Jones (1937), David Hockney (1937), Peter Doig (1959) and Damien Hirst (1965). These works illustrate the creativity of members of four generations of British artists, while serving recognizable examples of the style of each of them.
work entitled "Man in Blue VI» (estimate 4-6 million pounds) of Francis Bacon, one of the best examples of existential portrait of the postwar era, was written between March and June 1954, at the same time of Bacon's art represented the UK in the 27th Venice Biennale. Three works from the series to date are included in major museum collections in the world, and presented the portrait was acquired by the present owner in 1971. The researchers believe that this work is one of the few that were created by the artist from nature, not from photographs.

painting, entitled "Pyramid of Giza and the head of the statue of Thebes" (2.5-3.5 million pounds) is a unique and significant for the creation of David Hockney's work written by him in when undertaken in 1963 at the age of twenty-six trips to Egypt. Egypt has always fascinated Hockney, and the first Egyptian species began to appear in his work as early as 1961. This hobby is largely contributed by the artist repeated visits the Pergamon Museum in Berlin, as well as his love for the work of the Alexandrian poet Constantine Cavafy. This work is in a private English collection for over forty years, up for sale for the first time. Also for sale exhibited work is dated 1978 year Hockney called "Springboard and Shadow", estimated at 500-700 thousand pounds.

executed in 1969, the composition of the three sculptures entitled "The table, chair, clothes rack" (estimate 1,5-2 million pounds) is one of the peaks of creativity Allen Jones. This work is controversial today, those same emotions as in the years of its creation - it amazes and delights together. Along with David Hockney, Allen Jones, was one of the British artists of the sixties, not feared for his work to challenge society, while also leading the viewer a genuine dialogue about the nature of human sexuality.
